Hello. What you have before you are three unfinished stories by me, SnowHawk7. These are all stories that I hope to finish someday but at the same time I have no idea when I will work on them or if I will ever work on them again.
Needless to say these are unfinished, incomplete, and in some places difficult to follow but I hope that you enjoy this small sampling of my unfinished work.
Story 1: Ace's Lament
Summary: This one actually started out as the opening to On Eagle's Wings which I started writing during my hospital visit. Ultimately I decided to skip this opening and just go right ahead with Shadow's perspective but I never really wanted to get rid of it. It's a very good start in my opinion although I'm not sure where I will ultimately go with it or what I will do with it.
Atop a ranchhouse near the edge of Azalea Town a lone Pidgeot sat in quiet contemplation as he surveyed all that stood before him. Although he had called this area home for many years he was always still amazed at the beauty of the scene before him whenever he returned after a long journey.
Ace the Pidgeot yawned loudly and stretched out his wings. It had been a long flight back from the Indigo Plateau with his master on his back, too long for Ace's liking but he hadn't complained. After all it was the least he could do for his master after costing him a victory and chance at becoming the champion of the Johto region.
The memory of the battle was still fresh in Ace's mind. He could see Koga, the former leader of the Fuschia City gym and ninjutsu master, watching cooly as his Venomoth covered the battlefield in a fine layer of stun spore. Ace had done his best to blow the paralyzing mist away with a gust attack but what he hadn't anticipated was that the stun spore had been nothing but a diversion.
Before Ace could react he had found himself pinned to the ground by the flying moth. Normally he would have been strong enough to resist the Venomoth but he was weakened from his earlier fight with Will's Xatu and didn't have the strength to resist as he felt the creatures poisonous fangs penetrate his neck.
Sam had wanted to recall him at that point but Ace had refused and kept on fighting. He had finally managed to overpower and defeat the Venomoth but the poison had taken it's toll. By the time the last of Koga's Pokemon fell Ace was barely conscious. Having only three Pokemon remaining including Ace Sam was barely able to defeat Bruno. The only one left had been Jake who had been felled by Karen's Umbreon. In the end all that any of them had achieved was a three day stay in a Pokemon center to let their wounds heal.
Ace still felt responsible for the loss and no matter how much his teammates tried to tell him otherwise he just wouldn't listen. It had been his mistake that had cost the team the chance to reach the champion, his lack of focus that had allowed the Venomoth to surprise him like that. If he hadn't let that damned bug sneak up on him like that then he would have been strong enough to help his other teammates against Bruno's Pokemon. Instead his master was paying the shameful price of having once again failed to reach the champion.
He sighed and idly scratched at the roof with his right foot. The middle talon was a light silvery color, another reminder of a mistake he had made long ago. The talon itself was artificial and attached to his foot by a pin in the middle joint of his toe. Even to this day, years after the incident that had caused the injury, it still bothered Ace to look at it and be reminded of the stupidity of the mistake that had led to it. It was that same brash and arrogant stupidity that had led to his current emotional state.
He continued to sit on the roof of the house thinking for several more minutes when he heard a light scrapping noise against the tiles on the roof. His head snapped around as only a bird's can and he came face to face with a large Sceptile sitting on the roof right behind him.
"(Jake? What are you doing up here? I thought that you had gone into the forest with Sam to train.)" Jake didn't respond and instead sat down next to Ace on the roof and looked out at the magnificent view.
"(Yeah, I was. But I figured that right about now you could use some company. What with Shadow helping out at the Pokemon center and Ghost helping Tucker in the SlowPoke Well you've kind of been on your own for the day. Just wanted to pop by and give my old friend some company.)" Ace nodded in understanding but silently he knew it was more than that. Jake had been trying to talk to him about what had happened at the Pokemon League ever since they got back and he wanted nothing to do with it. It was over and there was nothing more to say about it as far as he was concerned.
The two Pokemon sat in silence for a few more minutes as both of them tried to find a way to break the ice. Finally Jake just came right out and said what was going through his mind.
"(Listen Ace I know that you really don't want to talk about it but you need to know it wasn't your fault that we lost. So you made a mistake, it happens. But that one mistake didn't cost us the match. You know as well as I do that after that beating we all took from Will's team we would probably have never made it past Bruno anyway. And you did a fantastic job against both of his Xatu's. So quit beating yourself up about this. All we can do is train harder and try again next year.)"
Ace bowed his head and sighed. "(That's easy for you to say Jake. You're not the one who got blind sided by a predictable move that any rookie would have seen coming a mile away. If I had been strong enough to help with Bruno then you wouldn't have had to carry all the weight in that fight and we might have gotten past Karen.)"
Jake sighed and rubbed his eyes. "(Damnit Ace stop feeling sorry for yourself. We lost okay. That does not mean it's the end of the world or anything. Yeah it was an embarrassing loss, yeah you got pulled in by a rookie maneuver, now get over it. Think about all that Shadow has had to get over in her life. And your going to tell me that one little loss is going to bring you down?)"
Ace didn't respond to Jake's comment and frankly he didn't think he could come up with a decent comeback. The simple fact of the matter was that Jake was right. He was obsessing over the loss and putting too much pressure on himself.
After a minute Ace turned back to Jake and managed a slight smile. "(You sure know how to pull a guy out of the dumps Jake.)"
Jake grinned and slapped Ace on the back. "(I thought that was your position on the team. Anyways I should get back to Sam. He's going to have a fit when he find's me gone in the middle of training)"
Story 2: Silver Linings
Summary: This is actually one that has been in my head for literally years but I have only recently started to work on. The premise is quite simple. Sam finds a wounded Lugia washed up on a beach and over the course of several days nurses the creature back to health. I never intended for it to be anything more complex than that although what ultimately happens may surprise many of you. The opening is also me venting a little of my love of spy thrillers.
The Olivine City port was ablaze with activity. The maiden voyage of the newest ocean liner to be launched from the port, the S.S. Spirit, was set to begin in only a matter of hours and as such numerous preparations were being made.
Thousands of gallons of diesel fuel were being pumped into the ship's tanks while various sailors and Pokemon worked at a feverish pace to make sure it's holds were filled for the voyage ahead.
While the ship's voyage to Slateport City in Hoenn was only scheduled to take two days at the most no expense was being spared on the accomadations of it's passengers. Numerous high profile figures from across both Kanto and Johto would be on board, including the CEO of Silph Co and the Cerulean City gym leader Misty.
All things considered the media was having a field day with the launching of the vessel and dozens of reporters had turned out to see the various celebrity passengers board. However, amidst all of this commotion no one noticed a dock worker sneak away from the hustle and bustle and descend into the bowls of the ship.
Once he was sure that he wasn't being followed he removed the hat on his head, revealing a shock of prematurely white hair and steel grey eyes.
Swiftly and silently he moved ever deeper into the vessel until he came to the engine room. The noise from the massive turbine engines that powered the ship was intense and were it not for the ear plugs he was wearing he would have been deafened the instant he walked into the room.
As soon as he was inside he opened the small satchel on his hip and removed a Beretta Model 92F with an extended and threaded barrel for a suppressor. With barely a glance down he removed a large suppressor from his bag and attached it to the gun before moving towards the control room at the far end of the engine room. There was so much noise that no one heard him as he slipped seamlessly through the maze of duct-work and piping that kept the massive vessel running.
He reached the control room without being detected and silently pushed open the door.
There were only two men working inside and as soon as the door was opened a rush of sound from the turbines entered the room. It would be the last sound that either man heard for the next few hours.
Without missing a beat the man leapt forward and in a single motion struck the base of the first engineer's neck with a powerful chop, momentarily interrupting blood flow to his brain and causing instant loss of consciousness. Before the first man's body hit the floor the intruder had closed the distance to the second engineer and in one swift move had struck his solar plexus with a powerful strike before knocking him unconscious with another strike to the back of his head.
Once both men were unconscious he went over to the control panel and took a poke ball from the satchel that had held his pistol and opened it. After the flash subsided a female Mienshao stood before him. The Pokemon looked at the two unconscious engineers and grinned before turning to her master.
"(Why do you get to have all the fun? I could have come in through the ventilation shaft and slit their throats just as easily you know.)"
The man ignored his Mienshao and indicated the computer. "Get to work on the watertight bulkheads. I'm going to take care of the engines." And with that he left the room. The Mienshao simply shrugged and quickly got to work disabling the watertight doors that would prevent a leak in one section of the ship from spreading. The vessel's designers had never anticipated sabotage as a possible factor and hacking into the system was incredibly simple even for a Pokemon.
As she worked she could see her master moving through the engine room leaving small packets of what looked like putty with electric wires running out of them around the engine room. When he was finished with the engines he moved down a level to the propellor shafts and from under his jacket removed a flat plate with more of the putty like material attached to it.
Without hesitation he slide it under the shaft so it would not be visible and placed it against the hull where it made a dull thud as the magnetic strips attached it to the steel.
His task's completed he moved back to the control room where his Mienshao was just finishing up.
"Jade, were done here." The Mienshao nodded as the man returned her to her poke ball before taking the money out of both engineer's wallets and leaving everything else. The attack would be seen as a robbery by a desperate dockworker and nothing more.
Without a moments hesitation the man quickly made his way back up to the upper decks and moved along the side of the ship until he was hidden from the dock by the ship's superstructure. When he was sure that no one was looking he took one last look at the ship before leaping over the side and landing with uncanny grace in the water.
Using powerful strokes he managed to make his way over to the lighthouse where two men were waiting in a zodiac.
They helped him aboard before firing up the motor and heading out to sea.
As soon as the zodiac was away from the harbor the saboteur removed a satellite phone from a compartment on the zodiac and dialed a number he had memorized earlier. The phone rang only once before being answered.
"Is it done Evangel?" The voice was hoarse and sounded as though it were coming from death itself.
The man named Evangel smiled. "Don't worry. The hook has been baited."
...............
The launch of the S.S. Spirit was relatively uneventful. At least as far as the passengers were concerned. As for Captain Jonathan Decker, something seemed to be off.
Decker was an old hand at this by now and had overseen numerous cruises throughout his long career and had developed a sort of sixth sense for trouble. The mugging of two of the crewman by one of the dockworkers had set his nerves on high alert. Even though both engineer's were fine and little money had been taken the incident had set Decker's nerves on edge.
Since the launch of the S.S. Tidal from Slateport City several years back the shipyards of Olivine City had found themselves suddenly faced with very stiff competition in the cruise line industry. As a result both Slateport and Olivine had been attempting to one up each other over the last few years with new ship designs and levels of luxury to try and attract more customers.
The Spirit was the next step in this race and in Decker's opinion it was a waste of money. For all of it's speed and so called luxury, the Spirit was actually a very spartan vessel. Having been designed for speed the hull was heavily streamlined, resulting in very few areas where passengers could actually go outside. While this meant that trips took less time short trips really weren't what people were looking for in a cruise ship. They wanted an adventure, and frankly the Spirit was nothing more than a fancy racing boat. Sparse and meant to go fast.
Decker sighed and leaned back in the captain's chair on the bridge as the Spirit began to approach the Whirl Islands. Worrying about a feeling he had wasn't going to help anyone. Right now he had to focus on the here and now. And that meant navigating his ship through the Whirl Islands.
The course that was laid in was meant to take the ship as close as possible to the islands to give the passengers a good view. Decker was less concerned with the view and more concerned about all the reefs and uncharted rock formations surrounding the islands. At speed the Spirit couldn't exactly stop on a dime and it's hull was thinner than most ship's it's size to cut down on weight to make it faster. Another design feature that Decker wished hadn't been approved.
The islands slowly started to grow in size until the beaches were visible. At which point Decker ordered the engines slowed to give the passengers a better view.
The Spirit began to slow when suddenly a massive shockwave rippled through the hull, knocking Decker and the rest of the bridge crew off their feet.
Decker hit his head on the console in front of him but managed to fight through the stars in front of his eyes and get to his feet.
"All hands report! What the hell just happened?" The helmsman slowly got to his feet, massaging a large lump on his shoulder and shook his head. "Not sure sir, the charts don't show any reefs or rock outcroppings. It's possible we hit an uncharted one."
Decker was about to make a call down to the engine room to find out what kind of damage they had sustained when a frantic call came over the radio.
"Engine room to bridge! There has been a massive explosion down here!! The engines have been destroyed and the hull has been breached!!! Can anyone here me!!"
Decker grabbed the radio and immediately answered. "Bridge to engine room. Do you know what caused the explosion?" There was a pause before the engineer came back on. "Negative captain. But we can't stay in here. The water level is rising and the pumps were destroyed when the engines went up." Decker bowed his head.
"Alright get your men out of there and seal the watertight doors. We aren't that far from Cianwood. So long as we seal the breach in the engine room we can stay afloat. Call me back when the doors are shut and then get up here. Decker out" Decker set the radio down before turning to his first mate.
"Go and move all passengers up to the upper decks. Tell them that we are taking on water but it is under control." The first mate nodded and ran off while Decker ordered the radio man to contact Olivine and let them know what had happened.
He was just about to try calling the engine room again when suddenly the radio crackled to life.
"Bridge this is engine room! The watertight doors are not responding. We have tried both computer and manual controls but both have been destroyed. Captain, I don't mean to sound paranoid but...I believe we have been sabotaged!!"
Decker didn't respond, he simply fell to the floor and looked at the radio in his hand while staring out at the Whirl Islands only a few miles in the distance.
Finally he managed to get over his shock and bring the radio up to his mouth and utter the words that any captain hopes they never have to say.
"Abandon ship."
..............
Several miles away from the stricken S.S. Spirit Evangel was sitting in a speedboat observing his handiwork through a pair of binoculars.
"Like clockwork." He muttered to no one in particular as he looked back at the five armed men in the boat with him.
Story 3: Ivy's Exam
Summary: This...this one will likely never be finished but I felt that I should share it with you nonetheless. This was part of a collaboration that Cattensu and I were working on for some time. It was meant to be the story of how AU Ivy and Charmin ultimately came to have their fourth child and the complication involved in it. I truly loved working on this story and the fact it will never be finished is something that wears on me a bit but I hope that you enjoy what is here.
Ivy sat on the exam table and huffed loudly as she pulled the loose fitting gown tighter around her body and looked down at the clipboard Shadow had left her with. The list of questions seemed rather generic and harmless. Such as:
'Is this your first pregnancy'
'How long have you been aware of your pregnancy'
'How often do you engage in sexual intercourse'
Ivy stopped on that one for a second and let out a small chuckle. With how hard she and Charmin had worked over those two weeks to have this child she wasn't quite sure how to answer. Maybe Charmin could remember better.
As she worked her way through the questions Ivy continued to chuckle slightly to herself. Many of the questions were common sense and worded in such a way that Ivy swore they were meant for children. Then again, Ivy thought, with how often teen pregnancies happened these days it did make some sense.
Ivy just shrugged and flipped the page over. She was almost finished with the questions when she suddenly felt like her heart had leapt up into her throat. The second to last question on the page glared at her like an angry lion ready to strike and she felt her heart start to beat more rapidly, signifying the start of a panic attack. The question was simply worded and to many women Ivy's age would have been easy to answer. But for Ivy, it was a reminder of the living hell she had once been forced to endure. It simply said.
'Have you ever been sexually abused or assaulted'
Her thoughts immediately flashed back to Sedgley and what he had done to her as he held her down on his stinking bed. His laugh at her protests rang in her ears as she stared at the question and felt her heart rate continue to pick up as a bead of sweat fell from her brow.
Ivy knew that she had to get herself under control before this developed into a full blown panic attack. Quickly but at the same time calmly she started to regulate her breathing. Five seconds of controlled breathing in, then another five seconds of controlled breathing out. Over and over as she forced her mind to think of nothing but Charmin and the good times that she and he had had together.
Finally after a good ten minutes she was able to get herself back to a fairly even keel and before she was forced to think any further on the matter she scribbled a quick 'yes' into the box and set the clipboard aside as she continued to breathe.
She sat like that for another five minutes before a knock at the door broke her concentration. A second later the door opened and Shadow came in with a small cart of supplies.
"Sorry about that Ivy. I didn't mean for that to take so long but it's been rather hectic around here today. Lot of newly pregnant couples."
Ivy just smiled as Shadow pushed the cart into a corner and came back over with a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff.
"Well it's got to be nice seeing so much love in your job." Shadow nodded. "It is. Although to be perfectly frank I see more single pregnant women than couples. It's rather sad actually...but enough about that did you finish the questions?"
Ivy's smile quickly dissipated and she quickly handed the clipboard to Shadow as though it were a dangerous animal about to bite her.
Shadow took the clipboard and quickly paged through it before stopping on the last page. Ivy knew what she had seen and at that moment just wanted to disappear.
Shadow stared at the paper for several more seconds before turning and noticing Ivy's incredibly nervous expression. "Ivy...I'm so sorry."
And that is a sampling of the unfinished work that I have in store for all of you. Hope that you enjoyed it.
Tucker: Ahem...when are you going to post some of the fanfics with me and Venus hmm?
Me: Never.
Tucker: Aww come on man!!!
Me: Well...maybe someday...somewhere other than DA...

Though they aren't complete, I could see you putting effort into making these. I enjoyed reading those three, and Tucker could only keep his hopes up.

Hehehe, these are actually pretty good.
The first one with a slightly longer ending paragraph could have made a nice short standalone story, even if simple it was good.
Yup, I think I've even learned a thing or two about pacing just by reading that second story. Nice intro for an action series (Not enough Lugia though XD).
For some reason I pictured the characters as regular human persons on that last one... Didn't change the impact of the story whatsoever o.o
Not bad, goes to show you still have it .

When it comes to writing I have a bad habit of wanting to explain everything to the reader. Very Stephen King e sque.

Well... That WAS noticeable in the gun-assembly part (Hey, at least more detailed than IKEA) .
Part of the style, nothing wrong, though there are moments where being a bit more vague would help every now and then .

There is some really interesting ideas going on in here. Even if they are not finished/might never get finished I'm still happy that you published it.
I think that Ace's Lament is pretty well written and paced, it also touches upon how brutally hard an elite four challenge would be if done for real. I remember reading one of your stories a long time ago about how that silver talon came to be. It was the result of him flying into a storm and getting struck by lightning if I remember correctly, I just don´t remember why or what he was trying to accomplish by doing that but if memory serves me right, it had something to do with Tucker?
It reminds me that I have to go back and read some of your stories again, it's been a while since I read them the first time and there is a lot of good stuff there.
Silver Linings had a lot of potential as to how it could have played out. What happened prior to the story, who is the saboteur and what in it for him, who hired who, what are the motivations and how will it tie into the rest of the story. If its ever finished, I'm sure it would be an interesting read.
Ivy's Exam, I imagine that this one could go in a lot of different directions if it ever were to be finished. Ivy sure have a troubled past to say the least and being reminded of it in such a way most be a horrible experience., with that said, I'm sure there would be a lot of happy scenes as well, a lot has changed for the better for her since then after all.
