It's DINO TIME! I've been meaning to continue this "story" for a while and have recently been hit with the right amount of inspiration/motivation to spark an all-out art spree. So! It seems they've managed to escape the t-rex (for now) but have stumbled onto even more sharp-toothed trouble. Rrraptors! Huh. I really wanna hear Karnage say that now. XD Y'know, in hindsight I think this scene would actually come BEFORE the t-rex encounter... because Kit doesn't yet have that gnarly gash on his side. My bad for forgetting about that little detail but there's no rule I can't jump around in this "plot". So yeah. These guys (uh, girls -- they were all clever girls) were my favorite dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, although I am aware that they're not scientifically accurate depictions of actual velociraptors. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure the raptors in JP were actually closer in model and size to the deinonychus. Whoops, I nerd rambled. Hi, I like dinosaurs.

Anyways! Speaking of JP, remember the scene where Lexi almost gets her leg bitten off by a badass raptor? Refresh your memory here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTWo9o… Yeah, this sketch was inspired by that. Although in this case Kit isn't falling from a ceiling. I'm thinking he just made a running leap from an elevated cliff on the other side, didn't quite get all the way across and started to fall. Now lemme tell ya, when you're about to be eaten by a hangry "six foot turkey" with a mouth full of razor sharp teeth you better scramble like hell and grab onto whatever you can to pull yourself up and away from those jaws -- unfortunately for Karnage that happens to be his ear. XD I'm thinking the captain managed to get a hold of Kit's other arm a split second after this, but the kid still has an iron grip on that ear. At least it's supposed to look like an iron grip, anatomy notwithstanding.

Then there's the sketch you're looking at now, which I've decided happens before they meet Rexy. Which means it would actually be the first scene... I guess? Bah, I'll figure it all out one of these days. But there might be more dinosaur encounters that happen earlier on... before Kit gets seriously injured, because that's when things take a dark turn. Ooh, I am feeling inspired.

Of these, "Must Go Faster!" is my favorite -- that thing took forever and is still my best attempt at a dinosaur. Escaping Extinction was incredibly fun too and I'm really tempted to go back and color it one of these days. I'm unsure if I'll color this one yet or not but I did give it a lot of shading to (hopefully) give it a dark vibe while still allowing the characters to stand out. Anyways, as I write this I have three more sketches that are almost done and another that's beckoning me back to my art desk for further work. Here's hoping this art spree lasts a while.
