*Intermission Ends*

At the Skarloey Railway Hut, Peter Sam and Sir Handel were getting ready to tell their story.

Peter Sam Narrating: It was the day before the celebration. And, everyone was bursting with excitement. On this particular day, I saw Duck and his engine coming round the corner with his passengers. He didn't have Alice and Mirabel or their coaches yet.

Story Peter Sam: Hello, Duck.

Story Duck: Hey, Peter Sam. You look more cheery than usual.

Story Peter Sam: Tomorrow is the 100th anniversary of the day Skarloey and Rheneas's engines were built, and there's going to be a celebration!

Story Duck: 100 year old engines? I never thought I'd see it. And the two don't even look half that age.

Story Peter Sam: I think it's something to do with Celestia and Luna's magic on this island, slowing down the ageing of those who live here.

Story Duck: Ah, I see. Seems to make sense.

Story Peter Sam: Mr. Percival said something about the Duke coming as well.

Story Duck: Uh... Peter Sam, I don't know how to say this, but...

Story Peter Sam: What's the matter?

Story Duck: There are no Dukes. The engines have been scrapped, and the drivers of them had died.

Story Peter Sam: *gasps in horror* No... no it can't be true! You must be making it up!

Story Duck: I'm sorry, Peter Sam.

*Guard's whistle*

*Story Duck takes off, leaving Story Peter Sam very upset*

Story Peter Sam: Wh-why?! How could this have...

Story Apple Bloom: Peter Sam... are ya'll ok?

Story Peter Sam: *throwing the train into reverse* We have to go tell the others about this!

Story Apple Bloom: Peter Sam, calm down... *train starts picking up speed* WHOA!

Sir Handel: *Narrator* Meanwhile, the rest of us were at the sheds, oblivious to what had happened at the station.

Story Rusty: Isn't this great, guys? A 100th birthday celebration for the engines, and the line!

Story Duncan: Aye. Hard tae believe it.

Story Sir Handel: This will be fantastic. Did you hear that an engine of the Ffestiniog Railway had their 100th birthday two years ago?

Story Rheneas: I don't believe so. Who's the lucky engine?

Story Sir Handel: His name is Prince.

Story Skarloey: How'd you know about this?

Peter Sam: *Narrating* Before Sir Handel could tell them, Apple Bloom and I raced in.

Story Sir Handel: Peter Sam, you look like you've escaped an accident. Don't tell me those delinquents mistook your engine for mine again!

Story Peter Sam: Everyone! I have terrible news! The Duke has been scrapped!

Story Rheanes: Peter Sam--

Story Peter Sam: And... he's dead.

Story Sir Handel: *just as shocked* Dead?! Who told you?

Story Peter Sam: Duck did!

Story Skarloey: Guys, I think Duck is just pulling your leg.

Story Rheneas: He's done things like that before.

Story Peter Sam: No, he was serious!

Story Scootaloo: What about the time he suggested that Duncan dressed up in a clown suit outside the Steamworks?

Story versions of Rheneas, Rusty, Skarloey and most of the interns start laughing

Story Duncan: Oi! It was'ne funny!

Story Sir Handel: Guys, this is serious!

Peter Sam: *Narrating* Before we could settle everyone down, the Thin Controller arrived.

Story Mr. Percival: What is going on here? Peter Sam, why did you leave your passengers at the station?

*Story Peter Sam just runs off in tears.*

Story Sir Handel: Now look what you've done, guys!

Story Duncan: *sarcastically* Oh sure, blame it all on us.

*Story Sir Handel just shoots a dark look at the group and rUns after Story Peter Sam, expression turning to concern *

Story Mr. Percival: Would someone please explain to me what is going on?

Story Skarloey: Peter Sam was told by Duck that the Duke had died.

Story Duncan: And Sir Handel has jumped on the band wagon!

Story Mr. Percival: I don't have time for Duck's nonsense! We have a big day tomorrow. Skarloey, you're to pick up the Duke at 11:00 instead of 10:30.

Story Skarloey: Yes, sir.

Story Rusty: And, I'll take Peter Sam's train now.

Story Duncan: *muttering* If there is a Duke.

Sir Handel: *Narrating* While Rusty tended to Peter Sam's train with Featherweight, I found Peter Sam in his room, staring at our photo album, still crying.

*Story Peter Sam is looking at the closure of the MSR in the album*

Story Peter Sam: *wiping his tears* I can't believe he's really gone...

Story Sir Handel: He was a wonderful person, both as our mentor and adopted father...

*Both adopted brothers hug each other tight.*

Story Peter Sam: Oh why didn't we tell anybody about him sooner?

Story Sir Handel: After the way they reacted, I don't think they deserve to know.

Story Peter Sam: *sighs sadly* We let you down, Grandpuff. Wherever you are, please forgive us.

Peter Sam: *Narrating* Little did we know Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom heard everything.

Story Apple Bloom: Who's Grandpuff?

Story Sweetie Belle: I don't know. And what does he have to do with the duke?

Story Apple Bloom: Ah wonder if Granny Smith knows anything about this.

Story Sweetie Belle: Perhaps, Apple Bloom.

Peter Sam: *Narrating* The following morning, we were all woken up.

Story Rumble: It's time, it's time! Come on!

*Everyone wakes up*

Story Scootaloo: Alright! Let's celebrate!

Story Sweetie Belle: This calls for a Birthday Breakfast!

Story Rusty: Last one there is a troublesome delinquent!

*They race out to the kitchen*

Sir Handel: *Narrating* When we did get there, a lot of food and drinks were waiting for us.

Story Pipsqueak: Look at this feast.

Story Rheneas: What a lovely surprise.

*Suddenly, a party cannon goes off*

Story Pinkie Pie: Happy 100th Engine Birthday!

Story Skarloey: Pinkie! Of course you'd be here.

Story Pinkie Pie: What did you expect, silly? I would never miss out on a party for my friends.

Story Skarloey: Thanks, Pinkie.

Story Rheneas: This is amazing. Thanks, Pinkie.

Story Pinkie Pie: Think nothing of it.

Story Apple Bloom: Are the others here too, Pinkie Pie?

*The rest of the Story Mane 6 come in*

Story Apple Bloom: AJ!

Story Sweetie Belle: Rare!

Story Scootaloo: Dash!

Story Applejack: Did y'all think we would miss this?

Story Pipsqueak: I didn't think so.

Story Rainbow Dash: So how does it feel to have engines 100 years old?

Story Skarloey: It feels special.

Story Rheneas: Not many can say they've accomplish such a thing.

Story Mr. Percival: Alright, everyone. You know your duties today.

Sir Handel: *Narrating* Rusty, Duncan and I went to fetch our coaches.

Story Sir Handel: I'll beat you two this time!

Story Rusty: It is on!

Story Duncan: In the words o' the Highlander; "There can be only one!"

Story Sir Handel: What the... ugh!

Story Peter Sam: Come on, Rheanes. We have to get this right.

Story Rheneas: I know.

Peter Sam: *Narrating* Everyone had to get their parts right. I was ready to pull the Television Train. And Rheneas was carrying passengers who wore cloths of 1865.

Story Peter Sam: How are you doing back there, Rheneas?

Story Rheneas: Quite dandy. Yourself?

Story Peter Sam: Going great. Second time I've been allowed to do this too.

Story Apple Bloom: I wish mom and dad were here today to see this.

Story Peter Sam: Bright Mac and Buttercup?

Story Apple Bloom: Eeyup. *sadly* I really miss them.

Story Peter Sam: *understanding what it's like to lose a loved one* If they were here, I'm sure they'd be so proud of you, Apple Bloom.

*The intern hugs her mentor*

Story Apple Bloom: *feeling better* Thanks.

Sir Handel: *Narrating* After that, we met at the station.

Story Peter Sam: Sir Handel, the new station looks amazing.

Sir Handel: It does indeed.

Story Peter Sam: *Quietly* Do you think Granpuff would have liked it too?

Story Sir Handel: *nods* I believe so.

Story Rusty: Hey, Sir Handel, Peter Sam, is everything alright?

Story Peter Sam: Er, yes, Rusty. We're fine.

Story Rusty: You both seemed distressed yesterday. Are you sure you don't want to talk about it?

Story Sir Handel: We're sure.

Story Rusty: I'll be open to listen if you do change your mind.

*Story Rusty sets off*

Sir Handel *Narrating*: It was long before we were all there but Skarloey and Pipsqueak.

Story Sweetie Belle: They should be here any minute.

*They hear the whistle of Story Skarloey's whistle*

Story Peter Sam: Look, everyone's cheering them.

Story Rheneas: That's good. Maybe it'll take his mind off his disappointment about the Duke.

Peter Sam: *Narrating* However, Skarloey and Pipsqueak were far from disappointed.

Story Skarloey and Story Pipsqueak: We've brought the Duke! We've brought the Duke!

Story Sweetie Belle: Yay, Pipsqueak!

*When he and Sweetie Belle come close, they hug each other*

*Story Duke Norramby steps out of the train*

Story Duke Norramby: Good day everyone. Let's see how this new line can run.

Story Skarloey: Go right ahead, sir.

*Story Duke Norramby nods, and steps inside Skarloey's engine's cab with him*

Story Duke Norramby:

Sir Handel: *Narrating* After the test of the new line, we gathered round to see the Duke stand on Skarloey's engine's front bufferbeam.

Story Duke Norramby: Ladies and Gentleman, I declare your lovely new Lakeside Extension open!

Peter Sam: *Narrating* Everyone cheered, but... I couldn't stand it any longer.

Story Peter Sam: Uh... excuse me, Sir Duke... are you real?

*The people let out gasps*

Story Duke Norramby: *chuckles* Of course I'm real, dear boy. What made you believe I wasn't?

Story Peter Sam: Duck said that their engines were scrapped, a-and they died...

Story Duke Norramby: Duck is mistaken. The Dukes he was referring to were Great Western Engines. but Dukes are actually people. I'm as real as real can be.

Story Peter Sam: I'll give Duck dukes!

Story Apple Bloom: Never mind him, Peter Sam.

Story Peter Sam: *Sighs* You'll never get it...

Peter Sam: *Narrating* But before I could say anymore, the Duke carried on with his speech.

Story Duke Norramby: I congratulate you sir, on your remarkable railway. It must be a record indeed, to have 2 locomotives in regular service and both 100 years old. Long live them, and good running to their drivers, Skarloey and Rheanes.

*Both story versions of the drivers blushed with pride*

Story Crowd: Speech! Speech!

Story owner: Go on, Rheneas.

Story Rheneas: Ok... *takes a deep breath* Thank you your grace and everyone for your kind wishes. You've given both our engines a lovely 100th birthday. But your grace, Skarloey and I aren't the only ones with, "record engines". We got twin brothers with their engines too: Talyllyn's and Dolgoch's engines were built at the same time as ours, so they're 100 too and they're still at work. Their railway is at Tywyn in Wales called the Talyllyn railway. Please go and see them your grace, and everybody, and wish them, "Many Happy Returns" from Skarloey and Rheneas, their little old twins.

*The story crowd cheer*

Sir Handel: *Narrating* That night, we were getting ready for bed.

Story Sir Handel: Well, I can safely say the day was... pretty good.

Story Peter Sam: So can I. But still, I can't believe our Duke didn't show up.

Story Sir Handel: And, if what that Duke said was correct, maybe Duck didn't even know our Duke.

Story Peter Sam: Perhaps that means he's... still alive?

Story Sir Handel: It's entirely possible. But... should we tell the gang about him?

Story Peter Sam: Someday when the time is right.

Story Sir Handel: Right. Maybe after this whole thing with the birthday celebration calms down.

Story Peter Sam: Good idea.

Sir Handel: *Narrating* It took us a while to get everyone to calm down enough to listen, mostly thanks to either Duncan cutting us off or us being called to work or to quiet down by the other staff, but we eventually told everyone about Duke.

Peter Sam: *Narrating* And that was how the search party was sent out.

*The Flashback ends*

Peter Sam: And that's the story.

Duke: So, you both thought I was... dead?

Sir Handel: Yes. We were very upset because we thought we would never see you again.

Duke: I can understand why you may have thought that, but next time, make sure you and Duck are on the same page.

Peter Sam: We will, Grandpuff.

Duke: Even though it took a while, I'm very grateful you both remembered me for so long.

Sir Handel: Family's look after each other.

*The three of them get into a hug, then Duke turns to Skarloey and Rheanes*

Duke: You've both done very well with your engines too. And... thanks for looking out for these two young ones.

Skarloey: You're welcome, Duke. On this railway, we're all like family.

Rheanes: You said it.

Rachel: A family with my Sammy. *giggles as she cuddles with Peter Sam*

Peter Sam: *blushes* Oh...

Sweetie Belle: Isn't love so wonderful?

Pipsqueak: Yeah, it sure is.

*He and Sweetie Belle hold hands*

Duncan: Ugh! Enough with the fuzzys already.

Babs Seed: Someone's just jealous that he's still single.

*The rest of the group laughs together*
