- Chapter 3 -

A New Life

Sofear slowly drifted down the stream, it was morning and it was nice and sunny.
The driftwood was in opal lake and the currant was very slow.

A numbat called bow was hunting in a nearby forest and went to fill up a jug of water and get food, bow was a brownie gray colour and always carried a bow.
The numbat species never new about the quolls, all they heard was that they all dyed out many years ago but they had never seen one or know what they look like, they never had anything to do with them, they just carried on with their own lives and skills.
Bow had a wife called Ivan, ivan had a much longer tail than bow and it was much more bushy but she was the same brownie gray colour. Bow also had very long white ears and had white stripes on his back and shoulders, Ivan had the same but she also had stripes on her legs as well.
Ivan had just had a son two days ago who she and bow named erin, erin had a lot of similarities to bow and looked nearly like him.

Bow walked up to the banks of the opal lake to fill up his jug, he noticed something in the distance, the lake made glowing patterns where sofear was to get bows attention, bow got a large stick and pulled sofear’s driftwood to see what it was.
Bow pulled the wood on the bank and looked in side the blue velvet blanket and saw little sofear asleep inside the blanket, bow rubbed his eyes in disbelief then had another look, sofear’s eyes slowly opened and she looked at bow with her big blue eyes.
Bow smiled ‘hey little fella, where did you come from then?’
bow looked up and around to see if anyone was looking for her.
Bow looked back at the lake to see if it was giving a sign, the opal lake was also known as the lake that tells the truth, all the truth and nothing but the truth but in a strange way.
Bow looked at the lake but he could only see blurred visions and shapes which looked like fire. Bow looked at sofear ‘have you been abandoned?’
that was all bow could come close to thinking then he looked back at the lake once again, this time the lake made out letters which said sofear. bow looked at sofear again ‘your called sofear?’
bow looked at the amulet which was with sofear and turned it round to look at the back and saw letters being engraved on it and a golden light shined through the letters saying sofear like the lake ‘you are called sofear’
bow lifted sofear up and wrapped her in her blanket ‘you can come home with me’
bow grabbed his bow and put it inside his bowl which he didn’t fill up with water and slowly walked home holding sofear in his hands and looking at her.

Sofear became family with bow ivan and erin but was only told that erin was her brother and erin was told that sofear was his sister, they were never told the truth, sofear sometimes thought about how different she was to all the other numbats and the fact she had spots not stripes, but still she lived with it and every day their was peace…

And 16 long years later…
