"Thank you, Councilman Cadell," the powerful redhead woman says. "A most thorough analysis."
She always did have it in for me.
"My pleasure, Councilwoman Ragna," Cadell says. Greasy as an oil slick, that one.
"Is there any additional information that needs to be heard?"
A dangerous assassin type slips out of the shadows. A preternatural ability to be seen and not seen at the same time. His companion, the Sorceress, grabs at her arm but she brushes it aside.
"You have something to add Vilde?" Ragna asks, basking in the glow of triumph.
"The team assembled by the defendant performed admirably against great odds. The guildmistress recovered the spellbook. The rains have stopped. A Blackmoor magesword was recruited by the Dragonrider and became a Shieldmaiden in service of the Silver Goddess. Defending your borders.
"This is a witch hunt, nothing more."

"That team required your assistance, if I recall," the redhead states.
"Because they were woefully understaffed," the mercenary observes. "Assistance you failed to provide when you were asked - "
"Sandra the Astrologer," Ragna says, "you will be found in contempt if you discussed - "
"She did not discuss with me," Vilde says. "I assure you that Dagny and myself have our own methods of getting at the truth."

"Really?" Vilde almost laughs. "Who's going to do your dirty work for you, if not us? The dragonrider and magesword are loyal to the Astrologer. You will find yourself without options for difficult situations."
"I was silent until now," Dagny the Sorceress says, joining her. "But Vilde is correct."
"Recorder," Ragna says to the scribe recording this, "strike the comments from the mercenaries from the transcript." Th sound of quill scratching over vellum can be heard over her sigh. "You had said you had a character witness, Sandra the Astrologer?"
"She is in the courtyard."
"And she cannot join us... why?"
"Her request."
"This is highly irregular," Cadell objects.
"Drawing out the inevitable," Ragna says. "Let's play her game."
We head for the courtyard. And there they are in all their splendor.
"Your sister," Ragna says. "Hardly a reputable character witness."
"Your eyes might be clouded by ambition, Councilwoman," but the dragonrider is wearing enchanted armor, armor that has not been seen for over a thousand years in Verdantia. And her dragon is silver now and not blue."
"What are you saying?" From Cadell. A bit nervously.
"I am explaining the obvious," Dagny sighs. "That you have a Paladin of the Goddess in front of you. And it is well known that they cannot lie, do only what is right and carry Her favor."
"It's a trick of the Astrologer," Ragna says. "Dagny, dispel that magic."
"With all due respect to the Lady Astrologer, there is no spell she can cast, that I cannot counter. No offense, good Lady - "
