"So you did it," Keisha says, looking at me in my shiny chromium Star Command uniform.

"I did," I say proudly. "Four long years of wretched high school salvaged only by JROTC. Behind me. Moving forward, I am going to save the galaxy."

Keisha pulls me close, rubbing up against me. It is very nice. "My offer to you still stands. Join me and you can achieve greatness you haven't even dreamed of."
Pushing her away, not unkindly, I say, "You are a great gal, Keisha, really. But I can't buy what you're saying. And me and esper? That's laughable."

"I see you need to be convinced," she chuckles. "This will be fun."
"Being back with you in Motel 6 would be fun," I observe. "I have to report at the depot at - " My eyes do a doubletake. "Keisha, what are you doing?"
