*We can't land in Splatter Square* I hear the thief telling My Rider.
*I know* she replies. *Looks life half the army is mobilized. New City is completely under lockdown.*
*I hate to suggest this* I tell the two humans. *But do you think they're looking for us?*
*It's possible* Kohlna says. *But that means there's a mole very high up. Not many people know about this mission.*
*Sandra suspects someone - or someones - on the Council,* Mercy states.
*What do you want to do?* the brunette asks. *You're the boss.*
*Excuse me* I object, adding *I am not a stupid horse.* And at the same time, my rider says:
*We are a team. We both have a say in what we do.* And I can see her grinning even though I'm turned away from her. *Don't get her started on horses.*
*My apologies, fine Lady Dragon," Kohlna says, scratching an itchy area - how did she know - and I purr, despite myself. Though with a dragon, purring is more like the rumble of thunder. *Your wisdom is welcome.*
*Wisdom?* Meercy scoffs. *I wouldn't go that far - *
"Let the fine lady speak* I insist. *Clearly she is a human of astute observation and refinement.*
*Turquoise and Mercy* (pleases me she put my name first) *what is your collective plan? You can drop me off in Sandstone, if you like.*
*That is a long trek from Old City to New City.* I observe.
*If you're up for that, that's fine,* my rider says. *It's your call.*
*Do it* the thief says. *Just plan on me taking longer. Maybe let Turquoise feast on some venison.*
*Definitely a woman of refinement.*
*She gets sleepy flying on a full stomach - *
*That was once* I insist. *And the food was enchanted.*
*Look,* Kohlna says. *A tower without a spire in the center of Sandstone. A good place to land?*
*I see clawmarks there* I tell her. *Most likely Onyx's perch.*
*Well, he's not there now* Mercy says haughtily. *If you can stand the stench of that foul dragon, dear Turquoise, please let our esteemed passenger off there.*
*You're just annoyed that she is more refined than you* I point out. *And more comely, too, as much as I understand humans on this.*
*No one asked you* my rider says, as I land. *Good luck* They clasp wrists. *How will you get in? The dragon's big body is taking up the whole roof.*
*One more complaint and you're walking home. And I mean Mercy* I add. *And not you, fine Kohlna.*
*I'll be fine* the thief says, scratching an itch between my eyes. Then she kisses that spot and I swear it tingles. *Good bye, Noble Dragon.* And she hugs me then launches off my body and into an open window with feline grace.
*Wow.*
*I think you like her* Mercy observes, chuckling.
*She has the heart of a dragon* I explain. And then -
A flash of red from a window in a nearby tower.
*MAGESWORD!* I bark, as I take to the air.
The magical blast smashes into my side but being a dragon, I am fairly magic resistant. A bit inconvenient at most.
Mercy on the other hand -
Is falling like a rock!
"MERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!"
