Description Don't worry. I don't know what I'm doing either.

I've been sick but now I've finally gotten better and been able to create again!

For quite a while I've been meaning to try something new with my paintings. I haven't figured out "my thing" yet so I thought it was about time to try something different.

Let me know what you think of this new approach I'm trying

lol...  I love how there's this artwork and then you totally write "Don't worry, I don't know what I'm doing either." It suddenly makes more sense when you write that lol.

I like the idea, it's very different and very stand outish. Finding "your thing" is hard. I don't know what my thing is either.. I don't think I've ever had a thing. I was a graphite artist for years, just doing mainly portrait- but it wasn't my thing - it was just what I did best at... still wouldn't say it was my "thing"..

Thing is, I thought you did have a thing.. you definitely have a style and that's important, and a palette.. even if you feel you could do better or have more character or something to your work  - just know you actually do have a lot, and it's very enviable

PS I love how the cows are pretty 2D in comparison to the well, (may I add) VERY WELL shaded milk carton. You really got the dimensions  - the crisp light reflections on the edges, and the smooth dark bowing of the corners as they go away from you. Awesome job there. Maybe that is something you can look at - 2D/3D mix?

I really don't  I'm just trying!

It's really hard to find "your thing". Luckily through the process you might not know what your thing is but you don't know what it isn't.

Ooooh that's sooo nice to hear. I'm sure it's easier for someone else to see your style but I was sure that mine varied too much because I haven't figured everything out yet. I'm still just trying things here and there. So thank you so much for saying that!

Thank you!! I thought it was pretty fun to work with those distinguished contrasts. Yeah I might try some more of that again

I definitely see continuity in your work (a style that flows into other works).
But it's okay if you're still searching for it too, in fact it's probably better to always be searching otherwise you'd not have any enhancement or excitement in your work because it's stuck in a layout that is overused - in a bad way.

Can't wait to see more! Take your time x

That's interesting ! I really like how you painted the milk bottle, it's so soft and sweet
And I also like the contrast between the use of gouache and ink, also because in my opinion it can be left out to several interpretations !
I was just thinking about something... I think the contrast would have been even bigger if you had drawn the cows even more realistically. Like for instance their faces, that could have been less curvy and more sharp. But that's just an opinion, the effect is already great like that
Also, I read in the comments the suggestion of having kind of a bckground, I quite agree with that ! Also because because since you don't have any ground, the perspective is less obvious as all your three elements are so close in space (if that makes any sense ?). Maybe a background would have allowed to settled your elements within the picture ^^
But very nice to see you try other things ! ^^

I do have a tendency to be very soft and round in my art   I agree that it could give another boost of contrast!

Yes it does need a sort of ground-feel to it. I try to make my art as little foreground, middle ground and background as possible because I like the way paintings look, when there isn't a distinguished background. But you're very right this one needs more foreground, middle ground and background feel to it.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me!

This is really cool! The idea and composition are both so fun.

Thank you - I'm so glad you think so! Composition is always my weakest skill so that's so good to hear

I think that it would be more interesting if the cows were white and pink instead of white and black.
But I have to admit that drawing them this way creates really interesting contrast between colourful carton of strawberry milk and white and black cows. Im wondering whether adding a little of green in the background would help this piece. You might consider trying it. Maybe as a rectangle in the background (something like this -> Poe and BB-8 )
But in case of technique itself its great and ther's nothing I'd change. Especialy love the shadows on this carton. Great job!

White and pink cows could be pretty cool!

I was going for a pretty big contrast. This dosen't show on the scan but in real life there's also a contrast in media - due to gouache drying matt-ish. Ah yes it might need something creating more of a ground somehow!

Thank you so much for your comment - It's great hearing some different thoughts  I'm going to give it another go with black pen and a more detailed object(s) in gouache.
