Thank you so much for the comment! I will always remember the time I spent on TMNT fondly, I worked with a great crew, did some really fun drawings and hearing from you and other fans of the show really warms the ol' heart! Thanks again!

I got a quick question: When creating backgrounds for animation, what size do you work in? Do you have to create poster size images for characters to run around in? It has always baffled me while watching Saturday morning cartoons.

It depends on the shot, content, what's needed. Most design work is just that, a design for the layout deptment and animation department to look at and have an idea of the scope/size/dimensions of the room/area. What is in the room, lighting for color. So it would normally be on whatever the art director chooses. Depending on the style of the show to what's needed I've worked on 8.5 x 11 copy paper for things like a hallway, to 3 sheets of animation paper for a cityscape pan. Once it gets to layout it goes through even more sizing issues, where you get into fields. Though with the advent of digital age it's more about what you scan it in at and the screen ratio's.
Hope that helps somewhat answer your question!

does it ever! Thank you! I've had that question on my mind but it was never answered in any of my animation classes back at art school. Thanks for taking the time.
