I think you're exactly right. The train was really quite boring color(s), all black with the gray. - and the bright blue sky drew all the attention. In B&W, the focus is the train, and the sky is just a nondescript background.

Awesome shot. Excellent angle and so sharp and detailed. Wonderful. I think B & W helps you see more detail. Colour can be so distracting at times.
