Are you retiring

No...not old enough yet...we pick out a place that we wanted to live instead of a place that was close to work. I'll worry about work when I get there.

... I myself have always felt uncomfortable, overwhelmed and frustrated in city environments: crowded, hectic, stressful... and I've also always had a profound love of nature. ... And that... THAT... is your backyard. I can safely say I envy you... so very, very much... ... Lovely shot too. I love mist. It fascinates me... and I like how the colours in the sky are kind of distorted. ... And the bits of wood sticking out of the water... give me a sense of loneliness. Neglected, derelect. It's awesome.

Seeing how you live in Australia...I guess we'll have to envy one another. I too have a love/hate relationship with large metropolitan areas, San Francisco being the best I've lived in. But, my city life is coming to an end and soon I shall be in the country side. Should you care to have a look at my scraps folder from my front page, you will see the house and surrounding area where this photo came from. The town is called Powhatan, Arkansas, and has a population of fifty people. Powhatan was named in honor of the Native American chief who lived there shortly before he and his tribe were escorted off the property. My Sons have found many arrowheads on the shoreline of Lake Charles which just adds to the excitement and wonder of my new home. I can't tell you how refreshing it was to read your verbose critique knowing that you're all of 15! Hold dear your love of nature and for God's sake pick up a camera.

Thanks. It's wonderful. I want to improve habitat for the animals. I've only been there twice now, but I've seen deer tracks, blue heron, cranes, turtles, frogs, toads to name a few. The birds here are many and diverse.

SomeOldGuy In reply to Subsolar [2006-09-20 15:44:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you...but it really is my backyard. I just got the place and my whole family is living there now. I have to finish up some things here in San Francisco and then I'll be there full time. As you can see, I can hardly wait.
