Explain this to me Jeff? Are those rocks just lying there, or are they fixed somehow? And how big is this? Looks like it could be HUGE.

The rocks are just laying there although the path is well worn in. I would say it's about 25 feet across. Maybe this view will help place it for you.

Thats an amazing thing! Thanks for explaining. One more question...how do you get up there, is it difficult? Steps?

Lands End is a coastal hiking trail that starts by China Beach and ends at Sutro Bath Ruins. The trail runs along the edge of a cliff and at about the half way point there is a trail running down to a beach...I thinks it's called Mile Beach Trail. When you get to the bottom the beach runs toward the south, but a rocky point is right there to the east. A short climb puts you on the point where it was flatened for Civil War era gun emplacements. The studs that held the guns down are still there. The labyrinth is on this flattened area and the cliff runs up from here. To get this shot I climbed up a bit more and planted my butt firmly on some stones. I would say it was a good mile hike to get to the trail head for the beach and then a half mile down to Lands End Beach. The trail is a good one, wide, and steps where needed, and like any trail like this, it's always easier going down than up. Have a look at the links below.

Ok, I read that and looked at the links.. thanks SO much Jeff. What an awesome place, so much there to see and do. No wonder you go back again and again, so much to see and different each time I guess, with changes in light, or weather or time of day. You are so lucky to have this on your doorstep.

You are so right. I speak to many locals who have never been to the places I have. It's kind of sad really.

But if it's on your own doorstep, I suppose you think you can go anytime... I bet I have done it too! We should all look harder to see what is right under our noses perhaps!!!
