Description
The Three-toed Box Turtle-Terrapene Carolina triunguis (Agassiz) according to ‘The Amphibians and Reptiles of Arkansas’ from The University of Arkansas Press. The common name locally for this species and this species only, is “terrapin.” This male (red not brown eyes) was found crossing the road a day after a rain storm and was brought home to sit for this photographer (work it baby!). He was feed and watered for his trouble and returned to the wild. These turtles are collected and exported as pets and the only law protecting them is the collector may not possess more than six at any given time. This is truly a black eye to Arkansas, “The Natural State.”Related content

Good collage showing all aspects of this turtle.
I'm glad you set him free again.

I think what you call the red earred slider is what we call a terrapin here. Confusing, isn't it?
I love these creatures tho, I'm so glad you helped him and released him again. A happy story. I'd have done the same.
