Actually the Mason County fair and rodeo but I keep calling it the Shelton rodeo because thats where it is. It was a good little event and I enjoyed it a lot. Thought about going back today but the light was crap today and I'm looking for portfolio pieces, the drive is a little long too.The roughstock events were actually a little lacking, there were only two riders in both the bronc events! Luckily this boy, "Hank" from the Lazy HK Bar stock pen, put on a show for me before leaving the arena. He argued with the pickup men for a good five minutes before heading back for his dinner.
This looks a little more wreck-ish than it actually is. Hank, as you can see, was roped and being led by the pickup men. The man on the bay was circling him around and instead of cantering along side nicely, Hank lept forward, grazing the bay (who looks very irritated) and escaping the pickup man

Gorgeous! I love how people complain about rodeos. Nobody takes any time to really look at the animals. The horses' feet are trimmed, has a nice brushed coat and is well fed. How on earth do you think this happened? They don't drug the horses to trim them.Β the horses are actually pretty tame and love their work.

Well, I donΒ΄t like rodeo but I have to say that the photo is fantastic, full of movement. You got a great shot!

Beautiful capture, I love that you captured the movement of the pose - it's very dynamic. Nice lighting too, I really like how the mane looks; even though rodeo is something I'm very much against, I've got to admit that the photo is excellent quality!

It almost looks like Hank is enjoying himself. His ears are up, his teeth aren't bared, he looks more 'alert' than 'scared'. xD
The bay, on the other hand, seems to be saying 'oh not again'.
I've never been to a rodeo, nor do I particularly want to go. I just enjoy looking at great shots like this one.

ohh i went to dubbo horse festival which had a rodeo over 2 nights on the second a huge clydex that was gonna be in bareback broncs went spastic rider couldnt get on it got both legs hooked over the gate flipped over backwards then when they let it out it kicked one of the pick up men off their horse and he had to br dragged out of the arena. this photo just reminded me of it.

Yikes! Dragged like "lead forcefully"? I've seen many a bronc that wouldn't leave the arena quietly...which is always strange to me, their buddies and a bunch of alfalfa is waiting for them

yeah took them over 10 mins god i wish id had my camera. was kinda funny tho cause the clown got on the horse and rode it round while thy were catching the horse. was a beauty of a horse tho

this is a very strong picture!
it pleases me (a LOT) to not see a belt at his hindlegs (You know, like.. right before the hindlegs).. hard to explain

No I know what you mean, thats the "flank strap". He had one on during the ride, but it only lasted a couple seconds. After it came off was when the battle really began. He did NOT want to leave the arena and had so much fun letting the pickup men chase him around!

Wel I noticed that, on your photos, they werent awfully tight (seeing how one sunk down when it raised his hind legs) and has a wool thing on it, so I'm pleased!
And yes, nothin better then fooling the others and letting them run further ;3

its a rope, the pickup men had to rope him so they could lead him back. He stopped fighting it a moment later and it loosened up

*grin* spirit and movement!! gotta love a boy that can move! ur really lucky to be able to go to so many rodeos...we dont have many wher i am..unless you head outback australia..thne you get a few annual ones. though we do have one near december each year..its mad..i just whish i had a good enough camera!!!
