After seeing the first moonlight picture, I must say that I am a bit disappointed in this one.

First, the composition problem is still here - exactly the same : you chose your crop poorly. At the bottom, there is not much air for the plant to "breath" in the picture. A bit more of this dark area would have been very useful for the eye. I don't usually like central compositions, but I think in that case, it would have worked : the light part at the top, the plant in the middle, the dark area at the bottom (1/3-1/3-1/3).

Plus, the tones don't really work for me here. Yeah, it's more natural. But it's neither artificial nor natural. Neither night nor day. We are stuck between two periods of time and we can't really choose. Very uneasy feeling.

To finish on brighter tones, I can say you really have control of the depth of field. And since we are both working with EOS cameras, I know it's not always easy on them. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

thank you for the detailed critique i would say its pretty accurate.

i dont know about it being a poor crop when its deliberate. We can all follow the generic 3rds and have our images look the same or we can experiment and hope to not get shot for it.

i feel this was a pleasent change to the more common square crop and a stray away from the green and reds.

i agree it snot the best vind image nor his usual standard, but i wouldnt have it ruine my day like it seems it has yours.

Whe using 1.8's & 2.8's with manual focus, i dont think the EOS would have a very large influence on the artist control over the DOF.

besides sortvind borrowed my samsung U600 and took better photos then me.

Hello.

I’ve featured this piece in my news article [link] . I hope you don’t mind it and enjoy the article, too.

I’m sorry if, by posting this comment on more of your photos, I’m spamming your inbox – I am aware that some deviants were featured numerous times, but want to be clear on what exactly I posted there.

Do you photoshop any? Like change or inhance the colors?

Looks just like a painting to me... The effects you used are pretty nice, but because of them I think the photo looks quite unnatural... It's like putting a photo of a plant against a painting. I read LeFauneParisien's critique and I think it's fair, especially the crop part. My father keeps telling me that if something had been better placed in a photo, it would have had a bigger impact. But I simply never seem to learn that. (Although I'm trying to get better...)

I agree with LeFauneParisien's critique about the cropping, but I adore the tones. They are so completely unique to this image. I don't feel "stuck" at all.

And absolutely amazing DOF!

I love the colors! I think the "not knowing if it's night or day" makes it even more special. Love the background, the great contrast between the soft background and perfectly sharp front... perfect!

I agree with "LeFauneParisien"'s review in that the plant seems to need more "breathing room" / darkness at the bottom. I wouldnt think of that right away when viewing this photo though.
I disagree with them in the colour decisions though. They are amazingly beautiful here! To choose simply "night" or "day" colour schemes would have made this photo -much- less interesting. I enjoy the "uneasy" feeling they described. I am however thirsting for a bit more teal/coldness though... but that might just be a personal preference.

Anyhow. Its gorgeous. I don't generally comment on deviations very often, but this photo really caught my eye.

Oh this is very beautiful, It looks like the plant is underwater though, but that a nice thing. It's probably the blurry effect of the background that kind of make underwaterish.
I really like this photo, It's has that dark serenity feeling to it =]
