Description Last night,
I saw myself
As an old wizened woman
With skin like crepe paper
And hair like snow

Her eyes
Are guarding precious secrets

What stories has she to tell?
How many tears has she cried?
When life is a mystery tour

Some times I can't take it
Anymore
A lifetime of experience

Hate and love
Living side by side
And destroying each other

And I am destroying myself

As poetry this is a powerful piece, as a comment on the human condition it is insightful and thought provoking.
Have you ever noticed how shallow people never look within? Never question their actions or look past their shells to see their soul? True beauty is not a birthright, it is won from the battles and struggles of life. It is most often found in the hearts of those who have struggled with the reflection they see in the mirror and in seeing, strive to be better... That is not destroying self, it is learning about self, and learning enables us to 'become', to cast off our old skin, and like the caterpillar, become a beautiful butterfly.
