Description
First of all, I want to say that I love Nikkie Hale's works, and secondly that I had so much fun drawing this!

I was reading Death's Garden by when I had this idea for a fanfic/AU go through my head. (Just cause idk if other creatures exist in the Death's Garden universe). But anyway, I decided to draw up the image for her cause I love her stories so much!

Part of me really wanted to include another little lady from her stories, but I decided against it for.......reasons
I made up for it by including Bram.

I'm pretty sure that I got the look of her characters down pat, but I'm not sure if I got the colours right.

About halfway through my eyes just refused to work, so I was staring at my screen like
So I'm pretty sure I messed up at least once LOL
The shading also didn't help, but I tried........plus I hate hands XD.

The story idea takes a while to explain, but bear with me :laugh: . Hope you like it Nikkie!

BACKGROUND

In the late 1790's, a young Irish farm-girl, Bananshea (Ban-ann-she-ah) was known for her beautiful singing voice. One spring, she fell fast in love with a traveling man, Asketil (Axe-eh-till), who was just as mysterious as he was attractive. Unbeknownst to her, he is a vampire. Her family and friends are wary of this stranger, (particularly his name, which is old 1000's English/Norse, roughly translates to "god of the sacrificial cauldron"). Nevertheless, over the next months, he courts her with several gifts including flowers and songs he's written for her to sing. But his finest gift to her is a necklace with a ruby as red as her hair.

As time passes, people in nearby villages report people and cattle going missing. Her father inquires with the local priest who fears the man to be a foul demon. He advises her father to take a branch from the hawthorn on the holy grounds, sharpen one end to a point, and keep it on his person.

A week passes by and Asketil is caught drinking the blood of a shepherdess in a nearby field. Though he doesn't kill her, Bananshea's village makes plans to kill him. Knowing he has little time to leave, he confesses his true nature - a pure-blood vampire - to Bananshea, begging her to leave with him. Though afraid, she agrees to go with him and start a new life. Yet, before they can leave, her village attacks them both, asking him to renounce his evils - because Catholicism - to which he replies that he can't and won't. Bananshea's father, in a rage, takes the hawthorn branch and stabs Asketil in the chest with it. Rendered in a death-like-state, he collapses.

Believing him to be dead, Bananshea begs that she be given his body so she could bury it. The priest, believing her still to be under the influence of the man, agrees to let her do so on one condition. The coffin is to be tied around with a rope and thrown into the lake, with her bound to it. If she values her life as a chaste woman, she will save her own life, leave Asketil to rot, and be forgiven by God. If she chooses to sink, then damnation is hers to deal with. Despite her father's protest, Bananshea agrees to this and allows herself to be thrown into the lake.

Instead of saving her own life, she chooses death, and a bitter sorrow grows in her heart as she drowns. Unable to cross over the other world, her spirit became the death-bringing songstress that roams the hills: the Banshee.

FAST FORWARD

Many years have passed and the possibility that Asketil is alive is slim, but unlikely. Yet, it is possible that his essence may be preserved inside the ruby that sank with him and his lover. With the Slayers becoming more prevalent in that area, there is greater risk of it being stolen. In order to ensure that Asketil's essence is not captured and used against his own kind, King Andrei sends four of his guardians - Roman, Salem, Haru, and Ami - to retrieve it/him.
