Cloudpaw padded into BirchClan camp, a frustrated look on her face. She'd had a disappointing days hunt with almost nothing to show for, plus she'd had a run in with Thrushpaw. The brown tabby apprentice still gave her that weak smile ever since she'd rejected him two moons ago.
Cloudpaw took the tiny wood mouse to the fresh-kill pile before retreating towards the apprentice den, not taking any food for herself - she wasn't that hungry.
Mixpaw was curled up in her nest, having finished whatever her mentor wanted her to do. Her ears perked up as Cloudpaw walked in, giving a slight 'Are you okay?' look. She had heard the drama that occurred, but didn't want to bring it up. Easy for her, since she doesn't talk much.
Cloudpaw let out a sigh and met her den-mates gaze. "I'm fine, just annoyed." She mewed, going to sit in her nest - but not sleep.
"Oh no..." Mixpaw got up and inched over, sitting next to CLoudpaw. "What happened?"
"Thrushpaw happened." Cloudpaw hissed, flexing her claws. "The mouse-brain keeps sending me those stupid sad looks - its not my fault I don't like him." She paused, starting to think she sounded stupid though she wasn't entirely sure. She'd never been a popular apprentice, so she wasn't sure whether this was normal she-cat-talk.
"There'll be other toms, like my dad said. Toms line up to talk to she-cats once they notice how nice and pretty they are. Like you!"
"Its not that simple for me." Cloudpaw sighed, thinking back to the day her father made her promise not to love. The silver-tabby shook the thoughts away. "Anyway, enough about me, what about you? You have anyone who fancies you?"
"No..." Mixpaw was a bit confused by the question. "Horsepaw is really nice to me, and tall...Other toms are just saying hi to me, talking me up... I've never experienced that before." SHe drew her thoughts out through her words, focusing on the dust and dirt shimmering in the air.
Cloudpaw nodded slowly. "Sounds about right for BrushClan apprentices." She half-joked, half-spoke normally. Her gaze fixed on the roof of the den, watching small droplets leak through onto the ground.
"Brush? Are she-cats supposed to brush them off?" Mixpaw looked back at the grey tabby, a bit confused.
Cloudpaw blinked, realizing her mistake but grinned instead of correcting herself. "Yep."
"Ahhhhh." She smiled at her. "Is it hard to do that? DO toms swarm around you too?"
"Well, no, but I've seen them do it to others." Cloudpaw flicked her stub of a tail. "I don't think toms are into under-sized and stub-tailed cats like me, but I don't mind."
"I'm smaller than half of them." Mixpaw commented, but then turned her attention to they grey tabby's tail. "I think it's cute, I'd love to have one like that."
"Its a real pain when it comes to climbing trees." Cloudpaw glanced at her stubby tail. "But it does mean I can run faster, so its not too bad."
"I hope that doesn't come to mess with you when you become a warrior..."
Cloudpaw shrugged. "It mainly just means I'm better at catching rabbits and squirrels, it shouldn't be a big issue."
"I can't catch a rabbit.... Squirrels aren't as hard, but I'm better with birds."
"I mean't to say I'm better at catching rabbits than Squirrels, seeing as they like to hide up trees." Cloudpaw flicked her tail. "Birds are pretty easy most of the time."
She nodded. "Oh no, I got that. Birds are always in the trees for me... My mentor says stalking is my best... talent?"
"My mentor thinks I'd be better use at fighting - so he says my best is my defense and clawing-action." Cloudpaw sighed again, flicking her tail. "Not that fighting is as common as hunting."
"Yes, but if you didn't fight, what cats would be left to say, hunt?"
Cloudpaw fixed her blue gaze on her. "I haven't thought of that before." She mewed quietly. "You're right, but its still kind of disappointing to not be good at everyday things."
"Have you seen me?" Mixpaw actually laughed. "I can't talk, that's...that's a more normal, everyday thing than even hunting."
Cloudpaw let out a small laugh, and a big smile spread over her face. "You're not so bad, and its not like I talk all the time either."
"Nooooo.... Mom got mad at me for it..."
Cloudpaw grinned. "Whelp, you're an apprentice now, your mother's going to have to get over it."
"I don't know... she's stubborn."
Cloudpaw shrugged. "But you're not her responsibility anymore.."
"But...Well...I still don't like her as much as dad..."
Cloudpaw shrugged. "Well, she's going to have to get used to that."
Mixpaw nodded and purred, flicking her tail. "Thanks..."
Cloudpaw nodded, a small smile on her face. "Don't mention it."
She curled up in her nest, noting the sun setting. "It's getting late, right?"
"Kinda," Cloudpaw mewed, turning her gaze upwards towards the sun.
"It's really pretty..."
"Yeah.." Cloudpaw allowed herself to get lost in the moment as she stared up at it.
Mixpaw eventually nodded off, falling asleep.
Cloudpaw continued to stare up at it until it wen't down, then her gaze was distracted by the stars and she began to think of her father.
