This is just an example of the kind of old book that can be found on the top shelves of our private library...

my mother Is a collector of books both old and new and we have some really beautiful old Bibles and stuff...
(the oldest book we own was printed somewhere around 1550, about 100 years after Gutenberg invented the printing press!)

So these were of course my inspiration for this project... at first I wanted to use the leather as a book cover for one of my Moleskine diaries... but seeing the broad, heavy volumes bound in leather, and working with the backup for the whole weekend spawned another idea....
