Ever since this episode released I never cared for it.
The entire plot line of the episode was odd and this solution to the issue made very little to no sense at all. I really like this comic strip you made because it sums up pretty much just how I feel:
Spike symbolizes logic and Common Sense. He wanted to address the situation within the most appropriate manner that would have also been very efficient and would have worked.
The others are pretty much the exact definition of counterproductive. They're so-called "Solution" was easily one of the dumbest things they could have done.
( I understand that MLP is a cartoon that's targeted towards a younger audience, children but that pretty much only drives the point even further. With a show with the name friendship in it this episode didn't really teach children how to address a situation like this properly or in a mature fashion. Of course the story writers have to come up with something in order to make a script after all but there could have been several other unique ways they could have gone with the plot of the episode)

Perhaps but that doesn't excuse them from trying. Just a one or two minute scene of them attempting to talk to her would have undone a lot of this episode's problems (though it wouldn't redeem it entirely).

Why is this the case with almost every RD episode?
-Rainbow is doing something they dont like
- they decide to give her anxiety (new hero pony, mad zombie infection)
-then go "lawl is doesnt feel good does it?"

They still seem a lot harder on Dash. You'd think with Applejack's honesty, she'd be the one to tell them "We need to tell Dash the truth". Or they dont let her explain. like when theyre all like "you know Fluttershy's not a tree" when Rainbow Dash tries to explain

Iβm not so much of an RD fanboy that I believe she can absolutely never be in the wrong or need to be taught a lesson herself. Iβve come to terms with my stance on the episode: I donβt hate it like the majority of the fandom, I just think it couldβve been done differently to help the message flow better.
Looking back on it, I acknowledge that RD was in the wrong,there were points in the episode where lives were at risk and her showboating couldβve been saved for later. And while I understand that she kind of needed to be taken down a peg when lives were in danger, but the mane five were also in the wrong, and the way they conveyed their message was very poor and came off as VERY mean-spirited and hypocritical.
Not mention that Fluttershy didnβt even DO anything in the grand scheme of things aside from said flyby when RD expressed the joy that flying was the one thing she was the best at. So what? RD wasnβt allowed to be proud that she could fly?? That is NOT humbling someone, thatβs just pouring salt in the wound.
Also how can they call her out on bragging and saying she should be humble if they showed up at the parade? That and attending their own parade kind of comes off as more hypocritical since the episode practically begins with her enjoying that fact that she has a fan club and the Mane five get on her case about her huge ego while sheβs at a gathering of said fans at Sugarcube Corner, which was technically after her heroics. And yet it was ok for Mare Do-Well to attend her own parade under the same circumstances?
They both technically EARNED that praise.
Not to mention that with episodes like Applebuck Season, The Last Roundup, Bats, Sonic Rainboom, and Sweet and Elite under their belts, AJ and Rarity are the last characters I want teaching someone about humbleness.
But the biggest problem I have with the episode was the aspect of "show not tell" being ignored in certain parts of the episode."28 Pranks Later" worked better with that reason because of that solitary aspect. We actually SEE them SIT HER DOWN AND TALK WITH HER. And when that fails they have Pinkie confront her one on one. That way it doesnβt feel like they all just jumped in on the plan without thinking of other options.
Yes, she probably wouldnβt listen, but it wouldβve been a nice gesture of faith if we saw that her friends trusted her enough to at least TRY that first. Itβs one of the reasons why I was able to genuinely enjoy "28 Pranks Later" despite having a similar premise. For me, if we had seen the two scenes where they talk it out with her and she didnβt listen in place of the flyby and Sugarcube Corner scenes then it wouldβve worked a lot better in my opinion.
