Bree leaned forward and hailed another taxi as it sped by without stopping. The twenty-eight-year-old retail clerk briefly fumed as she turned her head in the opposite direction and peered down the busy street for another taxi, avoiding irrelevant vehicles and focusing her vision to a point beyond the numerous shops and boutiques fronting the bustling shopping district. Another taxi. Another taxi which would continue to speed by her as if he didn’t notice her waving her arms frantically.

After a long day of shopping, Bree felt increasingly eager to return home, having finally secured the last item on her list - a gift card for her little sister’s nineteenth birthday from Sephora. However, the glut of tourists visiting for the festival caused an overcapacity warning on her ride-sharing app, and every taxi seemed intent on passing the petite black woman by for some other fare that they perceived as more promising.

Fed up with how her day was going, Bree sharply exhaled in an exasperated huff, sending the tiny guy chained to her nose-ring flailing from the resultant gust; spraying his back and buttocks with a smattering of tiny phlegm pellets that peppered his skin hard enough to leave marks.
