Diana's interns became increasingly insubordinate with each day her stature dwindled from The Shrinking Disease. Last month, each of them had been extremely grateful for the opportunity to learn under the wing of the statuesque socialite turned influential editor of Manhattan Publishing. Even without pay, they were eager to learn from the best, and even run errands when asked. But as Diana's eye level became equal to their own, the interns started to take longer and longer lunch breaks. At chin level, she started to notice their attention wandering from time to time as she lectured or scolded them on a poor performance; their disdain replete with sighs and eye-rolls. And as her frame fell below their shoulders, each of the girls started standing a little too close to her. . . though she couldn't quite tell if this was intentional.

Diana wanted to re-assert her authority, but she understood her situation would only get worse. It was possible that she could become small enough to be tossed between them like a tennis ball. She had to become ever more polite and respectful; realizing that these students would likely become her master one day soon.

Here, the interns informed Diana that they would be leaving work early today.

She learned that they'd be leaving directly after lunch.

And she was buying.
