Description And now back to our regularly-scheduled programming....

I plan to add a more thorough 'description' to this piece in time when I get the opportunity to really pen all of the figures and ideas involved more coherently, but at the moment it will just suffice to say that this is a spirit portrait of a gnarled maple tree which grows behind my apartment building. Awesome!! It's been too long since I've seen any artwork from you, so this is a real treat! I can't wait to read the story behind this piece. Love the detail in this one!

this is grogeous. i really like the detail you put into the embelishing texture near the edges.

Thanks, I was going for a Baroque/Roccoco-inspired embellishment.

or...like the "body-head" is trying to hide or imerse in someone else

great piece, I love the fact that the head is detached.. to me it's like it's sort of like someone elses head is taking charge over the "body-persons" head.. very thought evoking

Awesome pencil work... only the background looks unfinished.
I know this person is female but it reminds me Gollum (it's not a criticism!). I think it's mainly because of grey skin and pointed ears, but otherwise her head looks for me like it is in fire and it reminds me how Gollum died.
I hope you won't be angry because of this comparison...

Thank you, but it's not pencil - it's ballpoint pen. The background is sparse but I was concerned that if I made it too detailed or dense, it would compete with the foreground and drown it out.

So maybe you could left it with one colour or some delicate pattern? On the foreground there is a lot of details, I think the background wouldn't be looking bad without it.

That's true. I'm still working on my skills with contemporary backgrounds with architecture, so it something to keep in mind for further pieces.

This piece stood out instantly in my deviations list. The bark detail of her face is particularly lovely.

Thank you. The majority of media used was a black ballpoint pen rather than pencil.

It's really beautifully done my only suggestion is if your tryin to make the head look attached to the body bringing more of the middle and darker grays into the body would make the piece look more coherent. Just a suggestion, very stunning job on the face.

Thanks, that's a very good suggestion. Her head is sort of intended to seem 'detached' and different in quality than her body.
