Description Behold, Bat-Devil, the Knight without fear!

Origin:
Matt Wayne is the son of Martha Wayne and Thomas Murdock. Matt's mother died when he was young leaving his dad, a former boxer, now a doctor, to raise him himself. Thomas encouraged his son to study hard and make a name for himself, not get stuck as a boxer like he once was. As a doctor, Thomas was pretty successful and it ensured that him and his son had a pretty comfortable life. But it was not to last.

The Fixer, real name Carmine Falcone, learned that his top gang rival had been seriously injured in a shootout with another rival gang and was in critical condition. The Fixer did not want his rival leaving the emergency room in anything but a bodybag and threatened Thomas Murdock that if he saved his rival, bad things would happen. But Thomas Murdock hadn't let a patient down once, and he wasn't about to do so on purpose. And so, he saved the man, but, as the Fixer warned him, there would be dire consequences. As Thomas Murdock and his son where leaving a movie theater, they were cornered by a mysterious gunman who threw a vial of acid at the two. The acid sprayed Matt in the eyes, who then had to watch as his father was gunned down in front of him. As his sight left him, the triggerman ran off into the night.

Afterwards, Matt found that though the acid had blinded him, his remaining four senses had been increased to superhuman levels. He had also gained a "radar sense" that acted as an early warning danger sense and a means of reading heartbeats. Determined to rid the world of the crime that had taken his father's life, Matt spent the next few years studying up on criminology, forensics, and the legal system and training intensely under his butler Alfred, who actually had quite the fighting skills for an old man. Matt even gave him his own codename: Stick. (Named after his tendency to use his walking stick in combat.)

Returning to New Gotham twenty years after his father's murder, Matt became a professional lawyer, using his knowledge of the legal system to ensure that any and all criminals he put away in costume stayed in jail. His successful lawyer career made him even more wealthy, which made funding his war on crime even easier. He then took to New Gotham's streets as the vigilante Bat-Devil, the knight without fear.

Bring on the Bad Guys!
But Bat-Devil's exploits quickly made him many enemies. Chief among these was the current reigning crime boss in New Gotham: The Big Question. The Big Question was so named because who he really was was "the big question" In truth, his real name was Edward Fisk, but few knew this. Edward was quite the successful crime boss, and had the entire criminal underworld in New Gotham in his pocket. By that extension, he was pretty well off and completey untouchable. Edward demanded that riddles be left at the scene of every crime he ordered, be it an execution, a robbery, a hit, or even a simple smuggling operation. Edward was unconcerned with any riddles that the police might be able to figure out as they where all planted by cronies, ensuring that the police could never link him to any crime.

But Bat-Devil proved to be quite the worthy foe for the Big Question, who was always able to decipher the Big Question's riddles and also trace them back to him. Though Matt could never put Edward away, he came quite close numerous times, and with each close call, Edward lost power and face. He could still get away with an awful lot, but Bat-Devil was getting to him, making him paranoid. He wanted him dead. But he needed someone good. Someone ruthless. Who did he get? Let's just say this clown had some damn good aim.

The Big Question's new assassin, The Jack (as in the playing card) went on an absolute rampage, leaving dozens dead before Bat-Devil stopped him. But by then, Matt's best friend, fellow lawyer AND district attorney Harvey Nelson had already been horrifically scarred by acid from one of their battles, driving him to become the criminal Two-Face. With the Jack incarecerated, the Big Question opted for a different approach. He selected assassin and cat-burglar Catsai to oppose Bat-Devil, figuring she might be able to seduce him. He had no idea that Catsai (real name Selina Natachois) had known Bat-Devil's alter-ego Matt Wayne beforehand and instantly recognized him. The two fought frequently, but Catsai always managed to get away, and part of it was that Matt still had feelings for her. But as she was now a thief and an assassin, those feelings quickly disappeared.

When the Jack eventually escaped from prison (his psychiatrist, who was in love with him, smuggled him a deck of cards which he used to murder everyone in his prison wing) he was not happy to learn that the Big Question had replaced him. So, he tracked down Catsai, and after a fight, killed her with her own namesake. This caused Bat-Devil to snap. He tracked Jack downand beat him mercilessly, eventually tossing him off a building where he fell to his apparent death.

A Protege, and his story
Bat-Devil's solo crusade was not to last. One day, Matt Wayne went to a show hosted by a traveling circus. But the circus had refused to pay protection money to a resident crime boss (Tony Zucco) and on the night of the performance, the Flying Graysons trapeeze wire was sabatoged. Peformer Dick Blaze lost his mother. His father (who was a motorcycle stuntman) crashed and burned when his motorcycle was sabatoged as well. He was in critical condition, and his chances of survival looked slim. Dick Blaze was approached by Mephisto, who offered to save his father, BUT if his father still died afterwards, Mephisto could have Dick Blaze's soul. Desperate to save his father, Dick agreed. Unfortunately, Dick's father still died and Mephisto sent his son Blackheart to claim Dick's soul. But Bat-Devil came to Dick's defense and was miraculously able to drive Blackheart away.

Matt saw in Dick a desire of vengeance against the criminal world, both human, and demonic, and so, trained him as his sidekick Robin. But Mephisto and Blackheart would not cease in their attempts to claim Dick's soul and he was forced to leave for everyone's sake, including his own. Wandering aimlessly, Dick ran into several other young vigilantes, and together they formed a new team, the Teen Knights.

By the time Mephisto and Blackheart caught up with him, they found that they could not take Dick's soul, because of his love for his teammate Starfire. So, Mephisto bonded Dick with the demon Zarathos, causing him to become a new hero: Ghostwing. But Mephisto wasn't done. He possessed the Teen Knight Black Raven (who just happened to be his daughter) and used her to ruin Dick and Starfire's wedding. Blackheart also took the form of a man named Slade and became the greatest foe the Teen Knights had ever known.

Despite the harships he and his protege have faced, however, Matt Wayne remains Bat-Devil, the Knight without fear!

Glad you like this. Prsonally, I like how I fused Ghost Rider's world with the Teen Titans. And Joker and Bullseye. That too.

This is awesome! I loved Amalgam. I wish Marvel and DC would do it alot more. And I love how you brought in 'THe Big Question' from Assassins. Way too cool of a villian only to use once.

I made up quite a few Amalgams myself. Nightspider (Nightwing and Spider-Man), Dark Liberty (Batman and Captain America), but my personal favorite is probabily Captain Fantastic and the Fantastic Four, where I combined Captain Marvel and The Sentry, and then the Fantastic Four with Elongated Man, Sue Dibny, Fire, and Captain Atom.

Heh..getting all excited about Amalgams now. I should see if I can make up even more. ^_^
