The second prompt is "Divided" and as I am honestly quite divided about the fact that a new "Darkwing Duck"-series in the style of the "Duck Tales"-reboot is at least very likely in the making, I drew Drake in his proud 90s-version. I recently saw a picture of the redesign that is supposed to be the new Darkwing. He looks rather fetching with his nifty belt and trim build, somehow dynamic, strong and youthful.
But that's not what I like about Darkwing. I love that he's not really muscular or strong and that his plans mostly backfire because he's trying too hard. I smile about the fact that he actually possesses the duck-equivalent of a receding hairline, struggling with the enormous task of fighting St. Canard's villains by night and raising his adopted daughter by day. He's not working properly without a few mugs of coffee and his neighbours are annoying. He's the everyman who's simply trying to get by. And let's face it: Drake Mallard NEVER looked truly handsome while not wearing the purple suit, fedora and cape of his hero persona. But that's how I like him (and drew him here, obviously) and I hope the redesign won't destroy this character that was so cleverly crafted and has a life of his own by now. Well, that's something I had to get off my chest. I hope I didn't bore you with such a long comment.
