Description The M-68 Expeditionary Rifle is a service in the service of the UFA Army and Marine corps. The M-68 was designed in recognition of the terrain of frontier planets. Military doctrine had to be altered for combat on these battlefields. One notable requirement was that light infantry had to be able to engage enemy from much greater distances than conventional modern warfare. The M-68 addresses this with a very long barrel in a bullpup configuration, giving it the range and accuracy to effectively engage from distances of over 900 meters.

Another welcome benefit of this barrel is the additional power it provides the 6.9mm round. Most of the enemy's frontline "infantry" has great resistance to standard firearms. The power, engagement ranges, and fully automatic capability of the M-68 allows for more effective engagement of these enemies. Additionally, many outer colonies and frontier planets have uncontrolled local wildlife that can require unusually high amounts of power and damage to neutralize.

The M-68 is typically fed 6.9x48mm ammunition from a 40 round box magazine. The action is mounted in the stock behind the trigger. Forward of the trigger and beneath the barrel is a 36mm semi-automatic grenade launcher. With a 4 + 1 round capacity, the launcher adds a devastating explosive capability to the rifleman. There exists an option for a semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun to replace the grenade launcher.

As with all UFA service rifles, the M-68 includes an IOC-25 uplink to feed information back to the rifleman's HUD.

Used pimp my gun for this. My main inspiration was of course the Morita from Starship Troopers. As such, it's form before function. The idea was to make it look like it was function before form, of course. Like stuff from battlestar galactica. It looks like real military equipment, unshapely and ugly but it has a feeling of rugged practicality. Or that was the thought, anyway.

I love the idea of long, rectangular assault rifle. The rectangular form feels sci-fi, and the long barrel is supposed to be reminiscent of 18th century soldiers. One of the things that was interesting about Starship Troopers was how the military had so many similarities to outdated militaries, especially those of imperial countries. Not practical, but very interesting.
