Description Gate in Film - My Dad gave me his 20 odd year old Pentax K100 SLR, which I'd been hankering for for a long time... I just got my first roll of Ilford B&W 400 developed and I really like the results... I've underexposed for the majority I believe... but man, the DOF and look of them is amazing... still head and shoulders above what I can really do with my digital

nice shot, i enjoy the comopsition, very geometrical. not sure what your subject is, because at first glance you see the lock, the notice that it's a little out of focus (or maybe just too dark) id try burning that area just a little to bring out more lock detail. on the other hand, if that's the effect you were going for, it came out very well.

i love tri-x/ilford. its all i use for good shoots, because i find the black and white color processing film isnt nearly as saturated or detailed. maybe it's because of theh wal-mart 1 hour photo though
you should definately look into darkroom rentals, its so much more bang for the buck. i wont say cheaper cuz its really not, but you can get so much done. i think it's about $50 ish for half day darkroom rental, not sure really because it all depends on the place you go to.
have fun experimenting, and don't worry about the money, because film is definately worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the great comment... I was aiming for having the lock being the focus, so I missed it a bit really

As for being able to afford B&W film photography... man I just can't do it, it's a lot of money! Plus, now that I have a new digital (my old one broke), and it has the ability to have its apature manually set, and can get pretty wide open (2.8), I can do more shots like I was only able to do on the film.

Of course, now I need to find the time... *sigh*

Ahh.. the joys of Ilford. (Waiting for a roll of hp5 400 to come back from the processors myself.)

Another nice shot, although I think the subject matter feels a bit 'flat' if you know what I mean.

Yeah, I do, I think it's due to not having a macro lens... my mother-in-law showed me a minolta of probably the samish age of my Pentax which she was just given by a friend... along with... filters, telephoto lens and... drool, a macro lens.... I was hunting furiously in the case for any sign of an adaptor so I could use the lens on mine, but alas.

I might have to borrow that camera I think, oh how I weep for the cost of film developing, so hard to just 'try' things when you have to think "Geeze, this roll of B&W is going to cost me $30, do I really want to experiment with x shot?"

*sigh*

No, it didn't swing, cause it was locked...
