Description
[CW: Image contains bloody wounds]It's finally time for some new/improved PAIN refs... If things go as planned, I will have one ref for every other day of October. We shall see how that goes.
My goal is to make new references for characters who need a revamp to lore/design or references for characters who don't have a fullbody reference yet. So I may not get to characters like Fear or Bear, whom I'm already fairly satisfied with their current refs.
Starting with the "main character," Drip.
---
Drip is a white, messy-furred cat with pale brown eyes. Her pelt is marred with bleeding scars, the inky blood staining the surrounding fur a murky blend of colors. There is a sense of resilience in her gaze.
Cursed with an almost spiteful resilience. Any wound she sustains is unhealing and infinitely bleeding a deathly toxic blood. Fortunately, she is unable to bleed to death, and punctures to vital organs that would normally prove fatal for most cats would be survivable for Drip, despite how painful they'd be. The toxic blood lingers in a still deadly state for a few hours wherever it drips, irritating paw pads and killing quickly if ingested. You have to be cautious where you step when Drip is around, though she tries to be considerate and keep to her own paths.
Entering PAIN, Drip found herself in a still Kill-controlled Heart. She was not one of the fortunate few cats who slipped through the Heart undetected, being caught and put under Kill's curse. Drip fought against it, the torture of her mind, the blotting of her eyes. She wasn't one to give in easily. Kill could promise safety, he could promise survival, he could threaten torture, he could threaten death. Drip would resist. She didn't try to outwit him, or lie and bide her time until she could slip by - no she was stubborn and honest to a fault.
And it was astonishing, how quickly she could turn some of Kill's once loyal members against him just by being the only one to defy him to his face. He'd put her through mind-numbing headaches, and while the others would give in, she'd still stand.
She was fortunate, however, that her torture in the Heart wouldn't last until her demise, as it wasn't long after her arrival that the fiasco between Free and Kill went down. Where Kill's followers could only watch helplessly as he was dragged high into the pulsating sky and strangled in his brother's jaws. Drip watched in awe at Kill's death, it only took a blink and the shadow over her eyes was gone. Finally, something was changing! Something good was happening! A flicker of hope in all this suffering.
What followed was chaotic panic among the followers, Drip was among the first to scatter, as she desperately needed to find wherever Free went off. She figured his territory would be the best place to find him, however difficult it may be crawling through the thick undergrowth and enduring the constant rain. She wasn't alone as a few Kill followers dug themselves into Free's territory too, most looking for revenge. Some would die, some would find themselves free of Kill's curse over time, and at least one would settle on taking their revenge out on Drip and die trying.
Eventually, Drip finally found Free. Although he was in a state she didn't expect to find him in. Buried away, once glowing fur matted with muck and blood and leaves, decaying... Drip thought he was already a corpse until she noticed his breathing.
Drip called for Free to get up. After he had resigned himself to the punishment given to him by Fear and Love, now someone was here asking for him to fight. It was torture - she knew how it felt - but he could fight it! There was still good in him, he could still do good! He could help those in PAIN.
And Free finally stood up.

Ok, I finally have a description written out that I'm happy with.... erupts into flames. This took way too long.
I toned down the amount of scars Drip has here, as this would be her "start of the story" design. She'll gather plenty more scars + lose her tail throughout the events of the story. The deepest wounds she starts with are on her stomach and neck, and happen to be the wounds that she entered PAIN with.
I'm gonna be honest here and say I never had an idea where Drip got her bandages from. It was just a staple from her design early on that I kept. To finally give an explanation, I've decided that cats in PAIN are dextrous enough to make simple tools and using some specific plant in PAIN, they're able to fashion some pretty good bandages.
