One of the pillars of PAIN
Free is currently dead in the PAIN universe (the story kinda starts after he finally ends his own life)

Free was originally a bright yellow and white tom with magnificent bird-like wings. His eyes were a light sky blue.

Free was the fifth cat to be brought into PAIN, nearly at the same time as his brother (also a pillar,) Kill. As such Free had some control over the environment and such.

Not to go into too much detail for now, in the earlier days of PAIN, Free used to have his own territory for his followers, much like the other pillars (excluding Know of course.... and another, but I'll get there later.) Kill (Free's brother) had established himself as a mysterious leader inside the heart.

At first, Free was happy with the world of PAIN, and thought that what these cats were given here by THEM was... better than what they had before at least. Free knew he had much more control here.
But it didn't take long for Free to question the intentions of THEM, and in a desperate attempt to reason with THEM in the heart - one thing led to another and then his own brother captured him... and then Free blacked out.

When Free finally was able to focus himself back to his senses, what he saw was a bloodbath. He had been corrupted by his brother's powers and in this state, he had killed his closest allies... his friends...
In anger, Free returned to the heart and murdered Kill. Once Kill was gone, the heart grew more twisted and dark than ever. And so it became the uncontrolled mess that it is now.

Free was punished by Love and Fear for killing another pillar, his wings were broken and his body cursed to decay and weakness.

Free returned to his territory, absolutely beaten and broken. With the last strains of his powers he formed his territory into an impenetrable place for the other pillars' powers - and hopefully THEM, too, though he isn't sure anything can stop THEM.

Drip was closer to Kill's group in her early life (she'd hesitate to say she was a loyal member) and after Kill's death, she found her way to Free's then strained group. Drip became Free's closest ally after the loss of his other friends, and he's the one who informed her much of the things she'd have to do to save these surviving cats in PAIN from THEM.

And that involved the pillars being killed. Their very will to live while they were alive, was what held PAIN so tightly closed in. So Free eventually ended his own suffering, once he became unable to move.

Free passed on leadership to Drip.

But what was Free's curse? Free's curse was his ability to be free. He could free himself from nearly anything he wanted to.
But it seems that in the end, he couldn't be free from his own guilt.

Of course more details on all this later.
Fun fact: besides THEM I believe Free was the first of the PAIN characters I ever made. Design wise at least - originally he was like a science experiment type thing I think lol
