Description Another one because I really liked this idea I had.

Right now it isn't too well thought out, in fact I don't even have a proper location for Bloomwings yet, but I do have some basic information about them;

So Bloomwings are a peaceful tribe, similar to Rainwings. Though Bloomwings are a bit more social and not as secluded as Rainwings.

Bloomwings have specialized scales that plants grow from. Bloomwings actually photosynthesize from this and often don't need to actually eat any food. Though they are able to digest plants, not meat however. Bloomwings can either drink water or even absorb it through their scales.
This type of energy source however makes Bloomwings very lazy, to not waste energy. In fact, sometimes Bloomwings won't move from one spot for a week.

The plants growing from the scales make effective camouflage.Β

The types of plants around a Bloomwing will affect the plants growing from their scales.

Bloomwings are heavy dragons and have trouble flying, especially if they have a large plants growing from them, like bushes or even rarely, small trees.

Bloomwing antlers get bigger and branch out more and more the older they get.

Bloomwings are known as a very kind and peace-loving tribe, preferring to choose all sides rather than just one. Bloomwings aren't always kind however...

Fungi are like a parasite for Bloomwings, so they try to remove it immediately. To much fungi will kill a Bloomwing.

Rarely Bloomwings can be born with 'Deadscales'. Deadscales is when a Bloomwing's scales are unable to grow plants from. The only thing that grows from Deadscales are fungi(Although the fungi doesn't harm Deadscales), leading Deadscales Bloomwings to often be outcasted and even shunned. Deadscales often come off as a parasite to Bloomwings. Deadscales usually don't survive early childhood though, since the only way for them to get energy is to eat plants and malnutrition makes them weaker than healthy Bloomwings..

Healthy Bloomwings have rich brown scales, while unhealthy ones and Deadscales have more grey, dead-looking scales.

Bloomwing eggs are very unique since they only hatch in ideal (sunny, warm) conditions, much like a seed. Interestingly, the egg can withstand extremely hot and extremely cold conditions unharmed until it is finally able to hatch. Though if an egg is unable to hatch for a long time, it will eventually go bad, and the little Bloomwing inside will die.

When a Bloomwing hatches, they are completely unconcious for about a week, as they wait for plants to take root. Parent Bloomwings will often put the prettiest flowers near their dragonet to take root.

Bloomwings are instinctively drawn to sunlight and absolutely terrified of fire, for obvious reasons.

Currently, not a single Animus Bloomwing has ever existed.

So I just wanted to share this concept since I though it was pretty cool. And as far as I know, no one else has done this before? At least not from what I've seen.

I think they're really neat and interesting, i just need to figure more story out for them.

Oh and again, Wings of Fire isn't mine. Go read the books if you haven't!

what if one was hatched in the desert for some reason and ended up covered in cacti

Oo, that's an interesting question!
There are more desert plants than just cacti, but I'm gonna stick with a Bloomwing with only cacti growing on them.
Firstly, the Bloomwing would definitely need to eat plants to stay healthy, at least for the start of their life because cacti are more slow growing. The cacti would probably not cover all of the Bloomwing's fertile scales and the barren spots might go dead entirely. Still any spiky plants growing from a Bloomwing would appear pretty threatening. The cacti on the Bloomwing would help it store water and survive better for their desert home.
A desert Bloomwing has to be pretty tough to make it in such an arid environment.

Now, I'm just wondering how threatening a Bloomwing with Dragonflame Cactus growing from them would be.
