Description
I am walking home tonightthe air is getting colder
I think, soon it will be cold
I look up
and the sky is painted in blue and fuscia
I look down
and I see the leaves beginning to nestle
in the crevices of my street
I look ahead
and I see a man, walking towards me
for one moment
I think he is my father
and I am happy
because I miss him so much
but it is not him
and I am sad
I hurry home
because the air is getting colder
and I think soon it will be cold.
Acrylics on canvas
Some lite photshop.
Painted with poem, for my father, for his birthday
after I moved from Alabama to New York
it hangs above his dresser.

The extra manipulation in Photoshop on this one helped a good bit. The entire feel of the piece changes with the deepening of the reds.
I love you Spring Rae

I should mention this was inspired by the art of Jeffrey Jones.

The poem hits home for me. I have never met my own father, but I can still miss him at times; and sometimes I think - when someone passes me by on the street - that this person, just as well as any other, could be him. It's not exactly in line with your poem, but maybe I should write one of my own..
Anyways. I think the painting is very beautiful in a lonely kind of way.. I wish though that you hadn't compressed the JPEG so heavily, as it shows very much, and.. bothers, greatly.

I'm really liking the colors and shape of this.
The meaning of course adds so much to the piece.
Awsome work!

Thank you. When I gave it to him he said "what are you trying to do? Make me cry?" and then he gave me a big bear hug. Happy it touched you.

the poem is very touching and the painting is very intereting I love the colors and shading and the strokes of the brush (yes i know that sounds weird sorry but I don't know how to explain, maybe it is the texture the brush strokes create or the blinding of the colors that I find so intriguing
sorry I'm so unclear)
you

Brush strokes I am sure helped to create textures. I did photoshop to bring up the reds in the backgroud. These old fashioned paint and brush works never translate as well as I would like.
