1. SECRET-NINJA-SUPER-M (CH)
2. lizziecat1279 (IG)

--------------------Beginner: Soran and Guifo--------------------

Areas of Interest:
Lantern’s Watch – A small jut of land pushing out towards the islands of Ea and Enre.
Soran Grass – A pasture outside the main city of Soran. The grasses here are typically short as they are used for grazing.
High Grasses – A grass covered knoll in the middle of the island. These grasses are longer and inhabited by wild things.
North Beach – A pebbly beach on the shores of the Reza Sea. The water here is quite warm.
Continent Beach – Named because it faces the far-away continent, the beach is soft but the water is cold.
Forest of Lights – A thinly treed forest consisting of short trees. Many of the trees here produce fruit.
Tall Trees – This part of the forest is made of taller, seapple trees.
East Hole – A small clearing in the forest, named for its position in the forest.
High Hole – A small clearing in the forest, named for its position in the forest.
Lower Hole – A small clearing in the forest, named for its position in the forest.
Pirate Point – A sandy point used by the pirates of the surrounding seas to land on Soran
Guifo – A flat island used by pirates to discuss business.
Fisherman’s Sandbar – A mostly-submerged sandbar used by fishermen. There is a small rock pile near the middle.

Cities: Port Soran, Soran

NPCs

- Chief Hanazaoa
---Simply known as “Chief”, Hanazaoa lives in Soran and manages the affairs of the three islands. He is a jolly man with a large tough build, and he is generally hard to please. He knows the island of Soran better than most. His favourite creatures are the enikos
- Hannas
--- Hannas is an adventurous girl who loves to climb trees and explore all over the area. She’s afraid of the water though, so she doesn’t travel between the islands that often. She is very sporadic and has difficulty following a conversation for very long. Her favourite creatures are the jahls.
- Gebben
--- Gebben is the master fisherman of Soran. He spends most of his time on the sandbar just south of the island. He’s a quiet guy but fairly easy to carry a conversation with and he is willing to help most of the time. Gebben is Pepan’s father. His favourite creatures are the delsi.
- Pepan
--- Pepan is a quiet boy who doesn’t like to play with the other kids. He spends most of his time kayaking around the island alone, or out on the sandbar with his father. His favourite creatures are the sovyms.
-Dorcon
--- Dorcon is a shifty character who almost never sets foot on the main island of Soran. Instead, he spends his time on Guifo in a small tent – he manages Sashara’s imports and trade with occasional ships that come through the Reza Sea. His favourite creatures are the arunjis.

[Wet Season//Midday]

You get to the gate, but you don't recognise any of the guards there - perhaps the one who helped you last time is off today. The guard who does help you doesn't say much - she just stamps your papers and waves you into the city. You have to decide whether you go into the city or to head out into the island right away. The sky above is currently clear, but you see what might be clouds on the horizon.

Staring defiantly at the horizon, I tuck my papers safely into my bag and nod briefly to acknowledge people as I hurry down to where I remember some of the smaller boats liked to dock. One day I might own one of my own but until then I'd need help and transport. I keep an eye out for anyone who looked like they might be getting ready to set sail while I try to find people to ask about whether Gebben would be out on the island today. Going out there solo was not a very appealing option.

[Wet Season//Midday]

After asking a few people and getting a few head shakes, you find one person willing to talk to you.

"Gebben? Yeah, he's out on his island right now. Likely battening down again; storm could come up at any moment. You're not likely to find anyone starting out at this point in the day; best to ask in the mornings."
He puts his head back down and continues to fasten his boat to the dock and to secure everything in the boat as if expecting the storm of a century.

Frowning at both the sky and my timing for a moment, I look out across the water and then down at my bag before deciding against whatever crazy plan had started to form in my mind. Instead I half turned to look back at the city, then thanked the stranger and jogged back the way I came in hopes of finding the inn that had previously taken care of me - I'd brought a small gift of gratitude for them anyway, and I could at least pay for a night or three this time, with maybe some odd-jobs if it ends up being longer. Realising I should've asked how long this storm was expected to last, I muttered to myself as I hurried along; maybe someone at the inn would know.

Relieved to see a familiar face I greet them and, after some small talk and joking about me and storms, I rummage through my bag and present a small gift basket full of little bits and pieces from Iyore with a thank you note and a little bow on it, before leading the conversation to more pressing matters. Namely how long the storm was expected to last, and if there might be a room free for the night.

The innkeeper accepts your gift and happily rifles through it to see what goodies you've brought her.
"This is amazing, thank you so much! Oh yes, the storm. They're only afternoon flashers, you'll be good to go in the morning again. And yes, I think we have a room available for tonight!"

I hop about in a little happy dance for a few minutes, spirits higher than they had been since I'd seen the clouds gathering. "That's great news! Glad you like the stuff, too. I'm hoping to find a boat pretty early tomorrow, but until then, any storm prep stuff I can help with? The man I talked to by the docks seemed like he was expecting a lot of damage if stuff wasn't tied down."

[Wet Season//Evening]

"Pfft, pish. They all act like every storm is going to destroy their livelihood. They might lose a rope or something, that's it. Now, you go on upstairs - second door on the right - and get yourself settled and relaxed - the storms are routine around here and we've got it covered."
She hustles away to complete her preparations and to see to the rest of her guests. You go upstairs and find the room that she mentioned. After dropping your stuff, you head back down and enjoy supper yourself. The mood in the dining room is much more jovial than the mood at the docks - it seems that evening rains drive people inside to party and enjoy the company of everyone else. You stay up moderately late, but ultimately decide to head to bed so that you can get that early start in the morning.

After a pleasant night's sleep, despite a strange dream and a few lingering worries about the storm waking me briefly in the night, I'm up and full of energy for the day ahead by the time I hear signs of activity downstairs. While taking a moment to double-check my bag and pack away my sleepwear I decide that, after breakfast, I'll ask about the innkeeper about Gebben's schedule and head out as soon as I find a boat.

Creature Hunting Expedition
I wish to begin a creature hunting expedition.
Cost: 200Si
Opening Statement: To Soran come the innocents to learn.

I needed to get out and I knew it. I just had to get away. My packing was a little hasty, I forgot a flashlight and an extra pair of clothes among the normal things I packed in my backpack for expeditions and explorations, though I of course didn't forget plenty of food and water for my trip. I put on boots and some suitable clothes for walking and traveling and ended up basically flying out the door to get away from everything. Anything to get away right now was what I needed. In my packing up, Parfait  had been curious and ended up resting on my shoulder, looking over at me a lot. So the moment I was out the door she was with me. My attitude and quick pace as well as how simply flustered I seem had some of my friends riled and worried, and as I walked quickly away from my home two others ended up following us. Malak-al-Maut  kept a quiet distance, and I still wondered if only I could see him, but I didn't question it, knowing the Flera was only looking out for my safety. He probably thought I was headed back into those noxious gases, so he watched from a distance to make sure I didn't do anything stupid. My other companion and protector was with me as well. Zephyr  dropped whatever he was doing just to follow me out the door and off to wherever I was headed, and he stayed by my heels like a guard dog as I walked.

After a long journey from home to Soran, my condition isn't much better. My eyes are red from crying and exhaustion and my vision is rather blurry, and when I finally make it to the gate with the guard, I stand there dumbly for a minute like I'm not sure what to do, and then it hits me and I end up having to rummage through my bag for a good, full two minutes just to find my stupid papers. By the time I end up handing them over I'm even more disheveled looking than before, and I rub my eyes and run my fingers through my hair. "Sorry," I mumble quietly when I do hand him the papers, sighing a little bit. "Rough night led to this.. Hope my papers are in order like last time."

"Yeah, everything's in order. You look like you could use something warm and comforting. There's a food place in the square, I would suggest it," the gate guard said, handing the papers back. "Anything I can help you with?"

Smiling tiredly as the papers are handed back to me, I stuff them in my bag and place my pack back on me, shaking my head. "No, but thank you..you've been kind. Maybe I'll stop by and get some food, that sounds really nice. I was thinking I might go see the Chief since he knows me if he's home..but considering I'm not gonna be looking for an Eniko perhaps I should just go find whoever knows about Sovyms or Jahls.. Hm." Running my hands through my hair once more, I make sure everything is in order and take out a couple of water bottles, offering one to the guard and opening the other to take a drink. "Thank you again for your help..I do think I'll go get something to eat, that sounds really good right about now. I wish there were as many kind people as you in the world."

SpringsofIyore In reply to Ravens-Folklore [2016-06-15 21:28:39 +0000 UTC]

The guard accepts your offered water bottle.
"I would recommend the stew; it's got a great taste and lots of good stuff in there. And don't worry about the rest of the world right now; there's always going to be shit, just like there's always going to be rainbows. Go have a good time!"
As you start to walk into the city, the guard calls back at you.
"Oh, and if you're looking for a sovym, you need Pepan. If you're looking for a jahl, you need Hannas. Those kids are brilliant with those animals. Don't know where they are right now; you could probably ask at the restaurant."

You find the food place bustling with activity - it looks like the supper rush - but you easily find a place tucked in the corner. It gives you a little bit of privacy while still allowing you to see the rest of the room. A server comes up to you and asks for your order.

Ravens-Folklore In reply to SpringsofIyore [2016-06-15 23:04:21 +0000 UTC]

After the small pep talk from the guard I can admit I'm feeling much better, even with a monkey crawling all over my shoulders and picking through my hair. Actually, come to think of it, if the world is classified into the two categories of shit vs. rainbows, perhaps having a monkey crawling all over you and picking through your hair is a rainbow. No, it's /definitely/ on the rainbow side, I decide to myself, and as I'm making my way to the restaurant after thanking the guard and bowing a few times, I pet Parfait just thinking about it, and smile down at Zephyr and ruffle up his fur, letting Malak keep his distance but nodding at him so he knows I'm okay. I am thankful for my friends and thankful to have run into a guard as nice as he was, and perhaps right now that's enough.

So soon I'm sitting in the restaurant, tucked into my corner, comfortable as ever because I've always preferred being able to lean back into the corners of a couple walls when out to eat. And when the server comes to take my order, I smile up at them and reply, "I think I'm going to have the stew. I was told it was really great and I'm excited to try it! And to drink could I just get the coldest glass of ice water you have without the whole glass being an actual block of ice?" I chuckle a little, and as I see them writing down my order I remember what the guard said. "Oh! Would you happen to know where uh..Pepan??? Or.. Hannah was it? Han..Hannas? Would be? Either one of them would be great if I could find them. I'm here to find a Jahl or a Sovym and I was told either one of them could help me with one or the other. Also do you know if the Chief is around? I'd like to drop in and give him a visit if he's home."

SpringsofIyore In reply to Ravens-Folklore [2016-06-16 03:51:11 +0000 UTC]

She writes down your order and smiles.
"We don't have ice out here - too warm and no reliable electricity to keep a freezer going; we get our water from an underground spring. I tried some ice on the mainland and it was interesting. Don't worry though, your water will be cold. I'll ask around the kitchens to see if anyone has seen Pepan or Hannas lately. Be right back!"

She was gone for a few minutes; she checked in with a few other tables on her way back to the kitchens. When she returned, she put a big glass of water in front of you and put a wrapped straw down beside it.
"The chef says that Pepan is likely out on the sandbar with his dad; he spends most of the week out there unless they need supplies. And he was just in a few days ago, so if you want to see him, you'll have to head out that way. Hannas will likely be in bed already, her mom's pretty strict on bed time. She's usually up at the crack of dawn; she brings us flowers every morning from the fields."

She walked away to let you enjoy your drink in silence. After a while she brought your stew.
"And if you know the Chief, you'll likely be welcome at his home. It's beside the Hall across the square."

Tilting my head at the waitress as she speaks, I blink up at her with a small smile on my face, making small, fascinating noises as she tells me about the situation with ice and telling her it's not a problem because I understand. I give her a thanks when she is heading off to ask others about Pepan and Hannas.

When she does return I smile again as I thank her for the water, opening the straw and putting it in the glass. Listening once more to her words, I take a nice long drink of water and sigh happily at the cooling and relieving sensation it brings. I do laugh a little though at the thought that Hannas might already be in bed. I know about having a rather controlling mother but my own is controlling in other senses so I've always gone to bed really late, and it's interesting to think someone would be in bed right now for the night. It is nice to hear she brings flowers though, and I make a mental note that that means Pepan is probably easier access for me right now. Still, I'll go see the Chief first and talk to him, though I'm sure he'll be sad none of my enikos are keeping my company this trip. Sitara especially has grown attached to him throughout our trips.

Thanking her for the stew after awhile, I nod a little, beaming up at her. "He's become a good friend I'd say, I visit him every time I'm out here now because my first experience with him was so lovely. He and my Eniko Sitara sure get along great, I know she'll have wished she could have come with me this trip just to stay with him again. Anyway, thank you so much. You've been so kind and everything here has been wonderful. I'll definitely be back here again."

I then enjoy my stew for awhile, and when I am finally done and I know my companions are also fed with some of the food I brought them in my bag, I make sure to tip the waitress well and tell her to have a nice day before heading out. My first stop is the Chief's home. I wonder if he has anymore information on Pepan and Hannas before I go trying to find one or the other of them.

The square has come alive with the evening market in the hot summer air, the sun already starting to set. You work your way through the chaos of people and carts until you get to the front steps of the Chief's house. The guard there didn't try to stop you - maybe he recognised you from your previous trip? Either way, you make it into the front hall where a housekeeper stops you.

"Are you here for the party?"

The heat doesn't even bother me because of the place I grew up being constantly in the 70s and 80s at least, getting up into the 100s in the summer time. I simply make sure my companions and I keep hydrated as we walk, wiping away annoying drips of sweat every now and then. When we do make our way through the crowd, I make sure Zephyr sticks close and I keep an eye on Malak, my arms securely around Parfait because I have a tendency not to trust people and don't want anyone to try and grab my friends. And when we finally make it to the chief's house and are stopped by a housekeeper, I shake my head and raise an eyebrow at the question. "Party..? Uh..no. The Chief is a friend of mine, I just wanted to see if he was in and drop by before I head out to find a new companion to bring home with me. It's been awhile since I saw him so I thought I'd visit if he was home?"

"He's home. Upstairs. I'll ask you not to explore the main floor, as one of Chief's nieces is having her wedding reception in the social room in the back."

She walks away from you, leaving you in the front hall. Your animal friends are sniffing the air, clearly smelling whatever food is being served at the party.

Nodding at the lady, I thank her and tell her I won't bother the party guests but to extend my congratulations to the chief's niece. I then make my way upstairs, holding onto my friends and trying to make sure they behave and don't wander off in search of food. Quietly, I shush and nuzzle them as we walk, shaking my head at them. "I'd let you have at it but it's for a party, guys, I'm sorry. It's not our food to eat." I smile a bit sadly at them, making my way around the upstairs and looking for the Chief. "Chief? You here somewhere? It's Kyler, I'm here on another adventure with my friends and thought I'd stop in and say hi. Chief? Where are you?"

The moment I see Chief I am elated, and I bury myself into that bear hug of his and, when I can breathe again, giggle up at the man in his interesting tribal wear. Beautiful clothes, really. I nod towards Parfait just as the little monkey makes her way up onto Chief uninvited, and smile down at Zephyr as well. "She actually stayed home since I have three enikos now and they were too busy running around having fun with each other when I left. It was someone else's turn to come along anyway! I'm tempted to go back out and get another one, I just love enikos Chief I think you got me addicted!"

Laughing for a moment, I mention that I am actually here for a jahl or a sovym this time around, as I haven't managed to find companions of either species as of yet. I just couldn't stop from checking in on him though because he's my favorite person in Kitue, by far. "So how have you been then?"

After what feels like an eternity of catching up with Chief, you accept an invitation to spend the night in the manor - the room you are led to overlooks the back gardens and you can see enikos gathering in the trees to sleep in precarious piles against the tree trunks. You settle yourself and your furry friends in to bed and fall asleep.

In the morning, you are woken by a butler with a light breakfast of fruits and breads. He informs you that the Chief had to start early and regretted not being able to wish you luck on your most recent adventure. He does offer some advice on your creature hunt as he hands over your breakfast.

"For sovyms you would need to catch Pepan while he's in town. You can ask down at the dock if you want to see where he is. For a jahl, Hannas is your girl. She usually picks flowers and plays with all her jahl friends in the grasses just south of town until about noon." He leaves you to eat and make your decision.

Ravens-Folklore In reply to SpringsofIyore [2017-02-02 02:10:11 +0000 UTC]

As I'm awoken for breakfast, I share my fruits and breads with my lovely companions, offering pieces of cantaloupe and strawberry to them. We eat silently, and I think over my options. Last night it had seemed that it would be easier to talk to Pepan, because Hannas had been asleep, but now that I'm awake and it's morning, it seems that Hannas is readily available but I might have to rush to see Pepan in case he's already leaving town. He sounds like a busy guy, but I might be able to catch Hannas before she leaves for the day.

Eventually we finish eating, and I make my decision that it would probably be easier to catch up with Hannas than Pepan right now, and that I'll have to come back to talk to Pepan another time about Sovyms when he's not so busy. I take a quick shower and get dressed, hoping it's okay that I just used the shower available without asking, and I make sure I'm all packed up and ready to go. Taking one last look out the window to the gardens, I sigh a little and give a small smile. I wish I could just take all those Enikos home with me! If I could I just might stay in that garden with them forever.

But it's time to get going, so I head out the door and start on my journey, remembering what the butler says about going South of the town to reach Hannas, where she should be with her Jahls. I make sure to walk briskly through and away from town, as she will only be there until around noon, according to the butler, and I don't want to miss her.

The grass gets pretty tall, and you find yourself figuratively drowning in it. The yellow-green stalks wave over your head in the sea breeze that blows across the island. The wind carries the smell of flowers, which leads you to believe that you are in the right place. You keep walking deeper into the grasses, until you hear a high laugh coming from somewhere nearby. You start to thread through the grasses towards it, hoping that it's Hannas.

You break out of the grass into a small opening, where you find a young girl with a pile of flowers beside her and a flock of jahls parading around her. At your appearance, the jahls get spooked and disappear into the grass, and the young girl looks at you curiously.

After walking out into the field and smelling all the nice flowers, I smile when I see the little girl with her Jahls and all the flowers around her. I lean down and put my hands on my knees, smiling at her and waving a hello. "Hello~" I offer her happily. "Are you Hannas?" I ask, and I giggle a tad and tilt my head at her. "I'm Kyler, and this is my friend Parfait!" I motion to the monkey crawling up and down my shoulders, and Parfait gently moves to put her little monkey hand on Hannas's arm, wondering if she can crawl onto her. "And my friend here is Zephyr!" I offer, pointing at my beautiful Yuol.

After a moment of pause, I point to her pile of flowers. "I love all the flowers you've got! I'm sorry I scared your friends though. I heard you were the person to come to about these magnificent Jahls! You see, I've never had a Jahl for a friend before, and I'd really really like one, and I was wondering if you would be willing to help me out? I have no idea where to find a Jahl friend of my own, or how I'd get it to come home with me."

Hannas seems a little afraid of the yuol, but she happily plays with Parfait. It takes her a few minutes to remember that you're actually still there. She gives Parfait a flower and whispers something in the arunj's ear. Parfait runs over to you, climbs up your arm and shoves the flower into your mouth. Hannas drops to the ground and shrieks with laughter.
"No! No! Behind the ear!" she laughs as you pick the flower bits out of your mouth. Parfait seemed to understand her completely...
After Hannas stops laughing, she sits cross legged on the ground and is instantly flocked by jahls. They seem comforted by the fact that Hannas is okay with you. She gives you a sly look as you look at all the jahls, before leaning closer to you, birds swaying wildly on her body.
"So you want a jahl, hmmmmm? Well then follow me!"
She shakes all the birds off of her again and dives into the grass. You quickly follow her, not wanting to lose sight of her. Eventually she stops again, in front of something that looks like a very small grass cave.
"This is a jahl's bower - you have to befriend a jahl when it's young for it to trust you. How you do that is up to you."
She leaves you there and you watch a flock of jahls fly across the grass following her.

In the bower you see three young jahls happily peeping away. They look old enough to leave the nest already, but haven't, making them perfect candidates for your friendship.
You see a bright blue one, a muted green one and a reddish-pink one. Which one do you pick up?

After trying to laugh off Hannas and Parfait's joke, keeping the spirit light because she's young, I follow her to make friends with a Jahl, having to keep up with her quick pace through the grass. When I end up seeing the young chicks in the bower, I smile at all of them. They're all so precious, and I wish I could keep them all. I don't want to necessarily take them from each other, but the bright blue one looks so happy and the way it peeps up at me in such a cute fashion makes my heart melt. I gently scoop up the little one, bringing it to me to cradle it carefully.

You cradle the young bird against your chest and find your way back to the town. After saying goodbye to the people there, you take your new jahl and the proper paperwork home with you to meet the rest of your family.

are you looking to creature hunt or information gather? CH is paid for with exploration coins and IG is paid for with Si; it's not interchangeable. C;

I took out the LC and nothing else - overpaying for expeditions doesn't get you anything extra.

Information Gathering Expedition
I wish to begin an information gathering expedition.
Cost: 200 Si
Opening Statement: To Soran come the innocents to learn

I couldn't remember if I've ever even been to Soran before, but any excuse to get to Kitue was good enough for me! I had prepped the standard fare, and brought along some money and things for bartering. If I somehow ran out of supplies I'd be more than able to get more, that was for sure.
Even with a heavy pack it was going to be super fun and I breathed in the cold sea air as I wait for the boat to dock.

The gate guard coughs politely.

"Oh I'm deeply sorry, I was distracted by the island!" I rummage in my bag for the papers, slightly wrinkled but otherwise in good shape. As the guard looks over them I take a deep breath of the island air.

The guard at the gate raises an eyebrow as you wait around the gate.
"If you need advice on where to go to find anything, I can try to help direct you?"

I snap out of my daze, then laugh nervously. "Sorry, I wasn't sure which spot to check out first! What's your favourite place on the island? I couldn't decide between making the hike to Lantern's Watch, checking out the Tall Trees, or flying over to check out the Fisherman's Sandbar."

"Oh, the Lantern's Watch is pretty cool to visit! There's a rickety light tower out there, and if you squint enough, you can see Ea over the water. It's the closest place between the two islands."
He rubs his chin and hums.
"But the Tall Trees are pretty neat too - if you're not afraid of heights you can climb up and walk along the larger branches. Fresh fruit too."

"I think I'll go to the Tall Trees in that case, I'm not afraid of heights!" I shake my wings at him before continuing, "It'd suck to not be able to use these whenever I need them."
I adjust my pack a little bit, take a look at my map, squint out into the distance, then point in the direction I think the Tall Trees are in. "If I go that way I'll get to the trees right? Is there anything I should look out for or otherwise stop to appreciate on my way there? I'm not doing anything special here, just a tourist trip for info gathering. I might draw some of the local flora and fauna though, and it'd be helpful to have a local's insight." I smile toothily at the guard, hoping that it's more charming than creepy.

The guard smiles back and chuffs hesitantly - he's not sure of your teeth.

"Yeah, just keep going east and you'll hit the forest eventually. The Tall Trees are in the southern part of the forest.
And nah, there's not much to see on the way but grass. Pepan has a shack out there somewhere, but he's probably not even there.
If you're looking to sketch then you'll have tons of subjects in the forest. I'm no good with plant names, but my faves are the big red ones that sort of look like lipped bowls, y'know?"

"You're good to go," the gate guard says, handing your papers back. "Good travels to you."

You are free to enter the city or wherever else you choose to travel.

The boat bumps softly against the dock, as sailors on the boat and workers on the docks bring the boat in securely. Once the gangplank is secure, the crew begins unloading, and you hop down the plank and rush towards the city. The gate guards ask for your papers.
