--things are getting a bit slushy right now - it's recommended that you stay off of the ice on the ponds and rivers.
For conservation efforts, we have to limit the amount of people that are in the Springs area at any one given time. If there is a slot below that is empty, you are welcome to begin an exploration. If there is not, you must wait until someone else is finished. There is no waitlist; forms posted when slots are full will be disregarded and hidden.
You may not hold more than one slot at the same time.
You must wait 24 hours after the completion of your previous exploration before starting another one.

Area Information
--------------------Easy Difficulty--------------------
- Wetlands: An area right outside the Shelter's doors, the Wetlands are easily traversed. We recommend that you bring bug spray.
Areas of Interest: Twisted Tree, Dry Island, Sinking Sand
- The Glade: The Glade is a bright copse of aspen and poplar trees only minutes from the shelter. A great place for a picnic.
Areas of Interest: Three Aspens, Meadow, Wildflower Patch
- Deep Pond: The Deep Pond has two small islands. It is quite deep.
Areas of Interest: South Island, North Island, Peninsula
- Near Pond: The Near Pond is the closest of the four to the Shelter. It also has one island that is a bit bigger than Deep's.
Areas of Interest: Island, Shoreline Grasses, Shallows
--------------------Medium Difficulty--------------------
- Cold Pond: The first pond on the stream is the coldest of the four ponds. There is a small raft available should you wish to cross to one of the Cold Pond's island.
Areas of Interest: East Island, West Island, Inlet
- Muddy Pond: The last pond on the stream before it heads out of the Springs is deep, but it does not appear so because of the amount of silt and mud within it. We must ask that you do not try to cross the pond.
Areas of Interest: Mud Flats, Shoreline, Underbridge
- Hot Pool: A warm hot spring rises out of the ground here. If you do not mind sharing the water with a few creatures, it is the perfect place to relax.
Areas of Interest: Spring Source, Scented Grasses, Circling Rocks
- Grasslands: To the east of the Springs, the rolling plains take over. Part of these plains, called the Grasslands, are included within the Spring's jurisdiction.
Areas of Interest: Rock Formations, Hilltop, Burying Grasses
--------------------Hard Difficulty--------------------
- Far Forest: On the northern side of the Springs a dense, jungle-like forest begins. The Far Forest is dark and humid.
Areas of Interest: Mother Tree, Root Cavern, Canopy
- Northern Plains: To the side of the Far Forest is the North Plain. This plain is similar to the Grasslands, but the trek out there is much more tedious and because of its proximity to the mountains, the creatures found there are typically harder to find.
Areas of Interest: Rock Clumps, Streamshore, Blue Grasses
- Forest of Voices: This mainly coniferous forest is a prickly journey and not for the faint of heart.
Areas of Interest: Pillar of Wood, Life Flowers, Old Temple
- The Falls: These waterfalls signify the end of the Springs jurisdiction along the creek. Please do not play in the water above the falls; the Springs is not liable for your actions.
Areas of Interest: Edge Island, Misty Ledge, Tumbled Pool
- Rock Tower: The Rock Tower is a tall mound of rocks in the middle of the Springs. No one knows exactly how they got there. From the top, you can see the entire Springs quite well.
Areas of Interest: Strange Striation, Top of the World, Secret Cavern
--------------------Extreme Difficulty--------------------
- The Mountain: It's a strange world up in the mountains. The creatures up there are tough and feisty; we can only permit those who are willing to use extreme caution to hike into the Mountain. The Mountain Area is outside of the Springs jurisdiction and therefore there are creatures up there that we do not regularly carry in the Springs. When you venture into the Mountains, you are guaranteed to come home with an unlisted species.
Areas of Interest: Tree Line, Crystal Cave, Scraggy Outcrop
- The Juran Desert: Outside of the temperate climate that surrounds the Springs is the vast Juran Desert, also known as the Wandering Dunes. It is quite easy to get lost in the desert and so we only allow those who have experience to enter the Juran Desert. The Juran Desert Area is outside of the Springs jurisdiction and therefore there are creatures up there that we do not regularly carry in the Springs. When you venture into the Juran Desert, you are guaranteed to come home with an unlisted species

With Miarta as my companion of choice on this outing and Thomas our discreet and distant stalker (he'd decided to follow us on our outing, though I'd told him to stay put); we find ourselves trekking past the glade, around and then over Near Pond, and then (once we've come to our destination) climbing a few of the lower stones of Rock Tower. A long and tiresome journey especially through snow, but one I'd figured Miarta was in need of - if not because of my own curiosity. At least the sun's been out, lately!
Before leaving our home, I'd tied a bell on Miarta's collar so as to better keep track of her - though I see that I'd tied it to the wrong individual, as she'd stuck close to my side, where as. . .
I eye a slump-winged Thomas somewhat irritably. At least he'd given up the pretense of sneaking... And, to be honest, his added presence probably prevented some of the other not-so-nice creatures from popping up. . .
Somewhere between the Glade and crossing Near Pond the Prairie Gryphon had forgone attempting to stay out of eyesight and was even now haggardly following at a sedate pace, slowly pawing his way through the high snow towards us as we sit patiently on our stony perches. I'd prepared a lunch for us all, though I'd only intended for two to eat, I'm more than sure I can stretch it for Thomas.
Watching as said male makes it to where me and 'Art are resting on the stones, I can't help but wonder if he'll listen the next time I tell him to stay.

Actions You Wish to Perform: With my decision to go the Grasslands I would have loved to take all of my xoals along to let them run in a herd, but after the scare with Sweetie and Faress I decide to let them stay home. Instead I get a bag ready with a small, wrapped parcel of food, two slightly chilled bottles of water with a bowl, and a small blanket that I place over the food and water. I lift my first and dearest pet, Varis , from where he snoozes with his family to place him in the bag as well. I leave while the sky is just clinging to the dark blackness of night, taking a relaxed pace with my drowsy companion. I arrive in the grassy plain just as the sky starts getting dusty and light.
Smiling at my little knopfleri, I take a seat on the long grass and set my bag beside me, lifting the slowly wakening Varis and placing him in my lap before continuing to root through the bag, I place the blanket to the side and pull out one of the two water bottles and the empty bowl. Opening the water I pour half into the bowl and hold it close to Varis so he can take a drink, downing the other half of the bottle I look out to the lightening horizon. When Varis is done with his drink I set the bowl and empty bottle aside to pick out the small parcel of food, unwrapping it, I pick and nibble at small bits of food, occasionally offering some to Varis who starts to doze in my lap placidly. I smile and rub his head with gentle, loving strokes.

Actions You Wish to Perform: Ive decided after meeting with the heard leader of one the Kalan groups I going to seek out another member for my family possibly another friend. I start my journey over to the deep pond keeping in mind that the weather has started to pick up and its about spring time Ive brought my bathing suit. After walking for quiet awhile building up bit of a huff I see the pond, excitedly I take off the outer shell of my clothing having already had my bathing suit underneath I dive in. Swim into its deep waters popping up at the surface a few seconds later shivering, I start swimming over to one of its little islands. I decide to plop down on the edge of the water on the island banks warming up. I hazily stare at the water and start to see the water ripple in front of me and the sound something slapping gently against the waters surface.

What you are offering: I offer up a war poem creation and a chest plate, designed and drawn on the Kalan, if I am to be blessed with one. No matter what I will create war poem for your clan.
Actions you want to perform: Flanked by my two Wild Lhedis I head to the the Ehn'karan clan. When I come closer I motion for my two Lhedis to wait, as I approach closer. With a respectful bow I ask if I may speak to Ehn'karan so to make my offering.

Ehn starts to trot in your direction when he is suddenly interrupted by a young male interested in challenging the herd leader. They lock horns for a moment before Ehn tosses the young one to the side and continues on to where you stand. He pulls up directly in front of you and snorts loudly into your hair. He wants to know how you would react.

Kalan Petitions
Leader You Wish to Petition: Ehn'karan
What You Are Offering: I would like to offer art to the leader!
Actions You Wish to Perform: I decide to petition the heard leader Ehn, so I leave my house with my faithful pet, Nox , a couple bags of art supplies, and some snacks. We leave the springs, with the sun slowly setting behind us. We travel fast; not wanting to get to the leader when it is dark. I've heard that this herd is as beautiful as the sun, and we would like to be able to see them. We run through the meadows, jump over fallen trees, and climb over rocks, only stopping for a short break here and there. Finally, we spot some very large tracks, and follow them to the heard. Most of the Kalan are relaxing, and I'm not sure which one I am supposed to talk to, so Nox leads me through the heard to a very large red and gold Kalan. Seeing as he is laying down, we sit before him. I bring my bags forward, pulling out my art supplies and placing them in various piles before him, while Nox just smiles politely. "Hello Ehn'karan! Nox and I were wondering if a Kalan from your herd would like to come join us on our adventures. We've only just started exploring the outsides of the springs, and our other companions aren't really the fighting type, so I'm sure a Kalan from your herd would be able to keep us safe and encourage them to explore more! Currently, all I have to offer you is artwork. Would you be interested in a picture? I can draw you anything that you would like. If not, I'll come back next month with some more stuff sir." We sit quietly and wait for Ehn's response.

Ehn ignores you for a few moments, his eyes focused on a pair of young kalan fighting not to far off from you. Ehn bellows suddenly and the two break up and run in different directions. He turns his attention to you, his ears flicking back and forth. He listens to your offer with interest, he is a collector of glorious art. In the meantime, another pair of kalans have started fighting where the first pair had been.

Ehn grunts, snorts and tosses his head while stamping his feet. He then motions that he likes to run and fight. His favourite time of day is harder to discern through the foreign speech of the kalans, but you can feel safe to assume that, as the sun leader, he likes the time of day with the sun is at its zenith.

Actions You Wish to Perform: Having now been one of the first to travel to the mysterious Juran desert, and certainly liking what I saw, I decide to venture out again. I take my latest exploration, Dighost with me, seeing as he is from the desert himself and may be able to alert me to any dangers, such as quick sand or a poisonous shrub. We set out long before the sun is up and his tail and markings shine bright to guide my way over the outskirts of the Grasslands. As we get closer, Dighost's tail-light begins to fade, as I soon come to the understanding that some bioglow markings can be self-controlled. I soon hear a howl from another Ixel, no doubt out prowling before returning to its lair. Dighost tugs on my coat, telling me to stay still, as he, like myself, was unsure if this particular Ixel would be friendly. I saw it peek over the dune and stare down at us before giving a huff and running off.
The sun was getting closer to the horizon as it rose and Dighost's markings brightened a bit, for as the sun grew higher he no longer needed to hide himself since as it got lighter, the pair of us stood out like a sore thumb. We soon came to the sands part where I met my Ixel (at least I think that's where we were, the sands no doubt shifted by the day). We moved on until we came to a bit of an oasis, a bare patch of trees with a small pool and a few rocks to hide under, or bask in the sun. I took a sip from the pool and my Ixel followed suit. After we were both refreshed I looked up to a rock which pointed up the sun and realized we were not alone, and a creature, basking in the sun, stared down at the two of us.

What you are offering: I'm not much of an artist, but I am pretty good author. So what I am offering is stories. Writing, about the Kalan I might get and the springs in general.

"Well," I reply, slightly hesitant. "For there to be no free will, there has to be some sort of higher power to control people. Personally, I don't think that there is a higher power, be it God or fate or destiny. But even in the bible it says that God gave people free will, so if you put stock in that stuff, and I don't know if kalans do, you would have free will.
So in the end, I would say that, yes, we are truly creatures of free will. We choose our own actions. It might not be the answer you were looking for, but this is what I think."
