Description
Herd Leaders are not adoptable.Ranging across the Northern Plain is the star herd. A gentle herd, with hides of blue and green, they don't mind visitors. They are mainly nocturnal, spending their days sleeping in the grasses and their nights gazing at the stars. At dawn, interlopers can hear the sound of laughing wind, thought to be the star herd members communicating with each other.
Should a visitor wish to bring a member of the star herd home with them, their wisdom and thoughtfulness will be tested.
Zar'inyth'ea
The leader of the star herd is Zar'inyth'ea. Affectionately known as Zar, he has been regarded as the wisest of the star herd and therefore their leader. His golden star-speckled rump is easy to spot among the rest of his herd. Zar's antlers are unique among his herd, growing longer than any other. He is also blind.
See Species for information on Kalans and their herds.

I never thought that such an opportunity would present itself. After many nights of patience and diligent searching, I finally found an antler belonging to a powerful Kalan. I'd never ventured outside the Shelter before since I lacked the proper tools or opportunity to do so. However now was different. Now I have a plethora of friends and partners and the special horn.
With shadowthecat971: Lavender and shadowthecat971: Skitty at my side I felt invincible. Of course I could have brought Spielberg or Lafayette along but those two were sometimes too loud when put together, and Lafayette is just so big. I promised them before I left that they would come along for a special journey next time.
We arrived in the Northern Plain as the sun dipped downward and the stars were just peeking out of the dimming sky. Lavender and Skitty were used to roaming around at night of course. As an Oona, Lavender was Nocturnal to begin with, making her the perfect partner to accompany me to visit the Nocturnal Kalans. While Skitty usually sleeps for most of her free time, she never shrinks away from the offer of a night walk. Maybe my decision to bring these two along with me would demonstrate some kind of knowledge? That's what Zar'inyth'ea and her herd appreciate after all; wisdom and thoughtfulness. After a days worth of hiking and snacking the Star Herd came into view.
I held up the horn I found as I approached Zar, his star-coated skin was easy to find twinkling brightly in comparison to the surrounding area. "Zar!" I called out as I approached, Lavender and Skitty followed close behind. "I found one of your horns! and I'd like to petition you for a member of your herd to call my friend, ally, and crew member." I looked at the wise blind Kalan thoughtfully, he seemed to radiate knowledge and wisdom.
"My name is Sophia, it means 'wisdom' in Greek, fun fact. What would you have me do to prove my wisdom and thoughtfulness? to be deemed worthy to take care of one of your brethren?"

Zar apologises for his lack of attention towards you - he had been meditating on the movements of the sky and needed a long span of time to observe the heavenly bodies in motion. He stares at you for a long time without saying anything else - it starts to get uncomfortable to have his seemingly unseeing eyes on you.
After a long while, the kalan blinks, slowly, and exhales. He speaks to you telepathically.
Your patience is astounding young one. Tell me, of what benefit is patience in silence? Is it not better to speak your requests so as to have them fulfilled?

After watching the wise Kalan silently in his domain and thinking about his question, I smile, pet Skitty, (who had crawled into my lap,) and respond.
"I've always believed that the answer to any question or request is 'no' until you ask. However, if one is to be successful in obtaining what they seek, patience is key. If you irritate the one who you wish to learn from or get something from then you'll wind up with nothing. That's why it's better to be patient for a while after an initial request, even if that patience is silent."
