I was awestruck. I had only ever seen one Firebird, the one that Lizzie had brought down from the mountain a few weeks ago. I rub my eyes and blink a few times to make sure I'm not dreaming, but even as my eyes come into focus, I am certain that this is reality. The chill in the mountain air gets warmer as the creature approaches me slowly. Almost immediately, like Yuki wakes up and starts hissing at the bird, arching his back like a cat to make himself appear larger as he does his best to defend me from this new creature. The bird simply tilts its head to the side and gives out a loud scream, which frightens the poor knop, causing him to regret his decision in trying to protect me and quickly runs up under my coat. I cradle the frightened creature and turn stern eyes on the feiry one, "Now listen here, sir. If you wish to come home, you have to respect my other pets. I don't like bullies, so lets get that straight right now," the Firebird blinked in surprise and nodded, appearing to understand what I was saying. He walked closer and crooned to the knop who was quivering in my jacket. After making a few clicking sounds and what seemed like a hum, the Firebird was right face to face with me and Yuki stopped shaking, feeling safe enough to peek his head out from my chest and chirp. The Firebird then nestled its beak on the knop as Yuki playfully batted back.
It looked as if the two had reconciled their differences and I myself was ready to go home, "Well, my fine friend, what should I name you?" I asked him, stroking his crown, he backed away and spread his wings, so elegant and graceful like a dancer. I smiled as I had found the perfect name, "I will call you Fokine, after the choreographer from the Firebird Suite. Seems suitable, what do you think?" he crooned in agreement. I nodded and looked over the edge of the precipice, and wondered how I would get down, but before I could even think, Fokine had gently snatched me up by my coat, Yuki now in the hood of my coat, and we were flying back to the shelter on wings of glorious fire.
