Just as the title implies. Scout tries to tell and show Milo a thing or two about how to take care of donkey behinds in his own special way. He forgets that he's telling this to Milo...

You like Scout's advice? It's advice I wish I had handed to me YEARS ago.

I see that "Fus Ro Dah" thing all over the place, is it a Skyrim thing? (Not a gamer). I have to admit when I first saw it a couple times I thought it said "Fursona"

Wait, his name is really Scout or is it just a title?

Sprybug In reply to forestfairyunicorn [2012-02-13 23:52:58 +0000 UTC]

That's his actual name. I named him right after his initial character design. I knew he was a crossbreed, a guardian, rough and tough, and around Milo's age. But that was all initially. After fleshing him out, I thought it would kind of ironic and fitting if when introduced he was doing what his namesake was!

Poor Milo. I know your pain!
This reminds me of when my dad tried to fight back against the girls at school in second grade, only one time he told me to say "I know where you live, I know where you sleep, and your mother will cry when she sees what I've done to you"(which was the only time I actually followed his advice and got in serious trouble! XD ). I think people can really relate to these characters.

I wish I got that kind of advice myself. I got the typical "Just ignore them" which NEVER works. I kept getting that advice from my parents time and time again, and all that did was make me repress my anger and get depressed. Wonders that did me. I think a lot of us went through this at one point or another. I love having relate-able characters because it provides some sort of emotional connection. With that, you care more about 'em and gives you a good reason to continue on with the story.

That's never good People tend to forget how bad words hurt compared to actual injury. Words can hurt forever.
I agree, totally. Especially Young characters.

Heh, heh... Scout knows what he's talking about, but Milo could do with getting more in condition!
Bit of a reverse-argument there... don't they mark him up because he's such a wimp who won't fight back? Bullies are all cowards at heart, right...?

Sprybug In reply to DCLeadboot [2012-02-13 23:49:30 +0000 UTC]

You are so right about that. Yeah, he knows he's outta shape and wouldn't stand much of a chance. I'm writing this part more from personal experience myself and was fortunate enough that when bullied to not get into any real fight. I wasn't overweight and out of shape like Milo though, however I was tiny and scrawny and would be an easy one to pummel if they wanted to. So instead I took the emotional abuse which spurred off a lot of issues that I have to this day. It's easier to write from real life experiences because you know more how it plays out, what direction it goes, and how to handle it. Also it makes it more relate-able to the common person in the end, even if this character is a walking and talking muskrat.

When I took the verbal abuse at school, I just tried to ignore it... didn't seem to work, though...
Which was why, in the last year, I made one or two attempts to snark back with remarks like "little things please little minds" - which at least gave me a sense of winning a few small triumphs...

Whenever I would tried anything like that it seemed to add more fuel to the fire and escalate things a little. Just like when Milo said "I'm sure you can" in a non-sincere tone. Kayman didn't like it and it escalated the situation. I went through plenty of that in my life.

In my case, my snarks were more along the lines of "Parthian shots" with me turning on my heel and walking away, leaving them trying to get their tiny minds around what I'd said and having no chance for a retort... yes, I guess they didn't really make any difference, but at least it made me feel better.

At least you had something to fall back on and actually feel good about. I never knew what to do and would always get so flustered, and I think that entertained them, which made them keep doing it. It was like an every day occurance. It wasn't one or two guys either, it was a lot of people. I hated school.

I was glad to find people more sensible in college and Uni. In school, the other boys seemed to grow more childish while I grew more mature.
I got fed up with school, not just because of the bullies, but also the endless revision on stuff we'd already learned. The GCSE exams were the highlight of the last year! But then, like the end-of-level bossfights, I always enjoy the final fight more than the lead up (some long levels can just become tedious after a while)
I don't do theory. Give me hands-on any time.

Hahahah. xD

This really makes me wish your series got picked up for animation. Your attention to detail is great, man. :3

Sprybug In reply to Ari-Dynamic [2012-02-13 11:01:35 +0000 UTC]

Most North American animation seems obsessed with making comedy based shows and if not that, action based ones that tend to be more action than actual character development. Personally, I think it would be really refreshing, but execs wouldn't know what to do with it.

Yeah.

Well, here's hoping one day. If not a series, I'd love to buy this series to make for a good graphic novel.

I could definitely go for the latter too. Much more of a possibility. I thought after I finished issue 2, which should be in a month or so, to kinda throw it out there and see what feedback I get on it.

You considering sending it out for review? does reviews, sometimes with a buddy which he hosts on DrunkDuck or on hiw new site, I think - or on his forum, if you're interested.

Also, I notice that Scout has both buck and sharp teeth.

Sprybug In reply to Woaddragon [2012-02-13 06:24:55 +0000 UTC]

Why yes he does! When creating this character as a cross-breed, I wanted some features to be muskrat and some to be mink. When it came to his teeth, I thought to do both, since whenever I do fangs, there's a space in the middle. This allows for a bucked tooth to fit right in there.

Not at all, he's very passive and in a room full of others he'd rather just sit in a corner somewhere and try to go unnoticed.
