"Inside the Fortress with Scout"

This concludes Issue #2. A Q&A with everyone's favorite badass Guardian, Scout. This wasn't an easy one to deliver, because I had to cram in a lot of things, but I think it worked out pretty well. Thank you all for your questions! Don't forget this is Scout we have here, so he may be a little rough at times with his responses, but he doesn't mean any harm!

Yep. Yeah, seems that everytime we saw a close-up, he was never at an angle where it could prominently be seen. In fact, as you will see more guardians in the future, it's kind of like a right of passage. All guardians have one and what is on the earring as with its material signifies stature.

So if Milo becomes a Guardian (Which I'm assuming he does eventually "Don't tell me I want to be surprised" ) he'll have to get one? That sounds interesting because he doesn't seem like the type who would wear one. But what do I know?

Sprybug In reply to Dartpaw86 [2012-05-22 13:03:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, if he became of full-fledged guardian, taking the oath, training, and everything then yes, he'd get one. Nope, he doesn't seem like the type but it comes with the territory. But again Milo doesn't seem like the type that would be a guardian. But who knows what is going to happen in the future!

Hehehehe, loving how the Q&A came out. It's like those backend of the comicbook letters to the editorial in comics back in the day. How I miss those...

I'm sorry it took so long to get here again. D: Computer problems and undertaking so many things to expose myself more.

i originally did it so I could get issue #1 to an even 20 pages. I liked it, so I thought I should do it for every issue regardless. It's a good way to get the readers more involved with the story and also learn more about a character that you may not have known otherwise.

I wanted to start it off with something light and then end with him stewing about his thoughts on minks. Seemed a good way to start and end it.

Maybe the herbalist? Milo's Dad? Mom? Brother? Maybe even the villain when you get far enough. (If there is a villain)

Y'know that last one did come up as an idea. The opposition will make their first appearance and presence known in the next issue (SQUEE! Can't wait!). It's all possible! Not possible though would be Gypsum, Jaiven, and Flower since they won't be going on the trip. :/

Haha! Didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. It was something I actually threw in at the last second in the Q&A because it'd totally seem like something Scout would do. To answer your question: I do have the entire plot planned out. I just need to write it all out and mold some of the finer details.

Ahhh ok. Well I don't feel uncomfortable XD. You seem a busy person and I'm glad to see a couple more pages .

Teura: *looks at Scout* Hm really? You're a nice-lookin' young rip yourself. Bit cheeky, I might add. *slight amused smile*

Sprybug In reply to Ethlorn [2012-05-02 08:35:16 +0000 UTC]

At times it can be. Some weekends I work too. Like last weekend. I squeezed what little free time I had to get that last page finished. It's part of the reason why I'm taking a little break right now. I don't want to burn myself out and leave myself fresh for the next issue. As for Scout...

This is where he swoops in, seeing that he has an opportunity to get to know her better, chatting her up, maybe going for a walk or have a drink or two at the Fortress' hall with her. He'd lay on his charm pretty thick as the day would progress.

Ethlorn In reply to Sprybug [2012-05-08 17:57:55 +0000 UTC]

Hehe. She is called Teura the Mentor later on and is Captain of the Elite Guard, the personal bodyguard of some High Lord sommat but I forgot his name lol. She does mentor a young Lord's son...uh whatsisname...Falamar then the old Lord had Falamar's family executed and Teura and the guard that wouldn't follow him in his wickedness exiled...but yeah, that's another story lol. She is about twenty eight at the time of her story but I haven't really done anything with her backstory so I've no idea how she acted then when she was a young rip herself lol. She was part of an influential family though so she'd probably act a bit upper-crust-ish

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sprybug In reply to Ethlorn [2012-05-08 21:05:49 +0000 UTC]

She probably wouldn't have anything to do with Scout. He can be bad news and a bad influence too. He can be kind of a jerk and selfish, but at the same time he won't purposely hurt people either. He's not evil, just more of the antihero type. Kind of a chaotic neutral.

Ethlorn In reply to Sprybug [2012-05-08 21:48:06 +0000 UTC]

Yep, she does have things to do with critters like him now, due to circumstance, but growing up, she wouldn't have. If you'd like to read the RPG she was in, it kinda died and isn't real long, I could give a link if you like and have the time sometime.

I used to RP online back in the late 90's and then off-and on from 2000-2006 or so. I did it all on IRC so it was pretty much bang-bang and you had to be ready. This world I created wasn't even a thought when I did that. I had a whole other world I had written in those days, and it still sits in my closet, because it needs a ton of work if I ever decide to bring it back out again.

Ethlorn In reply to Sprybug [2012-05-09 13:06:25 +0000 UTC]

I've been rping since '98 and only recently, in the last two - three years has it been online, but it's how my stories and characters come to life, when faced by "real" situations and stuff. I rp pretty much every day with my siblings and we write them down in story format once in awhile. I'm trying to get them all written down. We only found it was called RPing about 3 years ago, lol.

Sprybug In reply to Ethlorn [2012-05-09 22:20:12 +0000 UTC]

Wow, you were a very young pup when you started. I started, online anyhow, in late '96 and it was almost a daily thing for about 2 years, then I finally weened myself from it only doing it occasionaly until '06. It did expose me to a lot of things and I'm glad I did it, but at the same time, glad I didn't get sucked into it like I've seen it do to others. I have this thing called real life I need to deal with. But those experiences combined with my schooling, work experiences, own imagination, etc, have led me to be able to do what I do now with Tooth and Claw.

Ethlorn In reply to Sprybug [2012-05-10 18:46:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, well I don't let RPing get in the way of other things, but being with my younger siblings and we're able to do it just like you can sing while you work and stuff. Being an artist as my main way of making money, it's not hard to RP while working on a commission or stuff and most of my books and worlds get more real when RPed in with my siblings.

I couldn't do it. Animation takes a lot of concentration and focus to do. At best, I can listen to music as I do it, but that's about as multitasking as I'll get with it.

Well, I'll write, draw and animate at once, let's just say I'm a multitasker XD. Kinda have to be with 6 younger siblings.

Not much of it. I haven't been able to post my newer stuff much because I moved back in to visit my family and my mom won't allow me internet. Plus, most of my commissions are drawn live at flea markets and fairs and are given right to the people.

Sprybug In reply to Ethlorn [2012-05-15 03:35:45 +0000 UTC]

Try to get some pictures of your flea market experiences sometime. Do you do caricatures at all? That's a weak aspect of my art. I know to look for the prominent features and to exaggerate them, but I'm not very good at it. Hehe.

Ethlorn In reply to Sprybug [2012-05-15 13:47:30 +0000 UTC]

I've done caricatures but they're more of my sister's area of expertise. I suppose I could do them if I practiced more, but I really don't like drawing people . That's why I need to get more practice at it lol.

You can go ahead and ask any question you like about T&C and I'll see if I have an answer yet for you or not. I've kind of gone back and forth about Scout's age, but Milo is 16 in human years. Scout is around Milo's age anywhere from 12 month back to 12 months ahead.

There's a bar scene that happens in probably issue #5 and I've debated just how much goes on with the characters there, which includes Milo, Scout, Copper, Kayman, Cowley, and others. I've thought how much do I want Milo to go through and experience there as with Scout and we know Scout's liable to do anything. How far do I take things...

Celestial-Cerberus In reply to Sprybug [2012-05-05 13:19:56 +0000 UTC]

What kinds of things do you have in mind?

You don't take things too far. The language is a tad mature from what I've seen so far, but you weren't making it for little children, anyway.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sprybug In reply to Celestial-Cerberus [2012-05-05 22:36:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you're right. With the big town coming up, it gives lots more opportunity for more adult themed things to happen, and for both Milo and Scout being young adults, a lot of trouble they can get themselves into. Not saying that trouble will happen, but the opportunity of more shady, seedy, taboo type happenings and subject matter has a good chance to come around.

He is a tough one but sometimes he uses it as a cover. He does have a soft side but covers it up a lot or shows it in kind of abrasive ways.

LOL. It reminds me of the most famous one of all..."I used to be an adventurer like you until I took an arrow to the knee."
