I hate to compare works of an artist to another artist. So I apologise for naming Frida Kahlo here. She was very special and original. She said "I don't paint dreams or nightmares, I paint my own reality." That's why her work was so heartbreaking. And this is. How could that be?

The grieving faces gets you. The middle one is a Mr S Rodriguez. The left one is derived from a thousand years of solitude and knowledge. (Sorry I'm freehanding). The right one is the grandmother, giving up on a sorrow that's just bloody unfair. The baby seems mature, like it has lived a life already.

Vision, originality and technique? Javelin's vision is good enough. Originality is self evident, you do not get this every day. Technique? It's just wonderful, every part of it is thought out. I'm looking at the right corner, it seems to be alive.

I'm opposed to handing out dA stars because it presupposes you're an expert. Oh well-

Thank you, Janne, for taking the time to critique my artistic efforts! I completely agree with Frida's words-- I paint my own reality. What I see around me affects the way I feel and how I see the world.. every minute my vision is changing and needs to be recorded. I'm excited that you see the dead as a mature baby. It is supposed to allude to Moses being put in a basket, and also to a grown man being laid to rest in a casket.. unfortunately all they have is his severed head. This piece is now in the care of , whose detailed and vibrant use of color inspired the style of painting I attempted here.

I do belive you're portaying your own reality, that's what makes your works so special. That's the Kahlo connection. There's an element of reality in it, which, how can I explain it, breaks through the surreal first outlook of it. It's like the hurt and insight on the face of the woman in NY, it's just ... unbearably good. I know about "every minute my vision is changing". I'm afflicted in that way. Doc says I have a 'clinical organic (too few seratonine happy-hormones) recidivating depression with bi-polar elements', which I guess makes me good at spotting art, ha ha.

I looked into your friend's gallery. Very good. Sub-human in my kind of way, I had to collect some of them.

When I look at your paintings, they go along with what I'm listening to. I'd love to link them but they're on Spotify. One is Kaki King's cover of the Cure's 'Close to Me'. The other one is Ministry's 'Over the Shoulder'. A third is New Order's 'Vanishing Point'. In fact, you should have that playing on your exhibits (sorry don't know how to spell that).

My life ain't no holiday
I've been through the point of no return
I've seen what a man can do
I've seen all the hate of a woman too

I really like your film/music suggestions... I have an art show this month but I'm just one of many artists in a little space, so I don't get to choose music. but someday..

put up a little note saying "Soundtrack: New Order: Vanishing Point." That'll sell.

ps. thank you, I really like using color to shade and detail.. yes, the stick is what makes it a funeral! it is propping the 'casket' open, but will likely be broken by the jaws in a minute or two.

oh it's cool, I'm just happy you noticed the stick! I like the stick. It is my lazy domination of a beast that would eat me.

Its so eerie and mysterious. I originaly thought it was the three wise men and the baby Jesus with a crocodile.

I agree, I noticed the baby Jesus angle when I stepped back .. it definitely has a mind of its own, which I don't totally understand.
