Even though we were preoccupied with double-timing it away from those creatures that attacked the scientist and Vega, I had plenty of time to beat myself up over it. I felt a hole opening up in my chest and it was so bad that it began to physically hurt. I couldn't tell if my rapid breathing was due to me being exhausted or if I was having a panic attack. I'd never really had anxiety before but I wonder if that's what it's like. I didn't have the luxury of stopping to calm down because Mikaelis kept pushing us forward. All he cared about was his objective but I guess I didn't have room to talk since I didn't help Vega or Sandover either. I wonder if this was the same feeling Farrah had…
I don't know exactly how much time had passed but eventually we stopped and moved inside an adjacent room. We could hear some of the creatures far down the hall, their disgusting noises echoing towards us. Having sealed ourselves inside for the time being, I wondered what the plan of action was but Mikaelis was already on top of that it seemed. He got on the radio and began talking to someone but I didn't know who at the time. I had a moment to breathe and began zoning out when finally Farrah spoke to me again. It wasn't much, just a simple "Hey, you okay?" "Yeah.." "Good". We both knew things were utterly fucked but we couldn't bring ourselves to acknowledge it. I guess we both thought that if we ignored it hard enough it'd all just go away. Were it so easy, right?
Sorry if I'm getting off track, it's just so easy to do when all this is floating around in my head. I don't want to make this incredibly boring but admittedly writing these out helps clear my mind. Guess it doesn't matter anyway since this is your job to read these but I digress. Back to the topic at hand… After a few minutes I finally came back to reality and heard the tail end of a conversation Mikaelis was having with the Insurrectionists of all people. He's a smooth talker when he wants to be, I'll give him that. Apparently while I was zoned out, he'd bluffed and tricked the Innies into letting us into the security center. I guess he lied and said we'd planted breaching charges and were going to blow the doors and let the monsters get them if they didn't let us in. While it wasn't a total lie and Farrah was always equipped for such things, we hadn't done any of that yet. I guess the spook also convinced them he'd hacked the cams but I wasn't paying enough attention. All I knew was that we were suddenly moving our asses back down the hall and quickly came upon the security center.
Once we got inside and the door locked behind us, we were greeted by ten well-armed Insurrectionists who didn't look at all happy to see us. Each one of them had their weapons pointed at us and finally Mikaelis gave us the okay to lower our weapons. I wasn't entirely sure I wanted to but I complied anyway. The Innies at least still had someone acting as a leader because one of them stepped forward and began some bullshit monologue and used a few colorful words to refer to Mikaelis; he wasn't too happy with being in the same room as an ONI operative. I don't think anyone would have just sat there and taken all that but Mikaelis just stood there. Silent. Calm. Collected. That was at least until he drew his M6C in the blink of an eye and put two rounds right through the Innie's head. We took that as a signal to engage and so did the enemy. They all began shouting and in the heat of the moment one of them lifted the security room lockdown so they could escape, leaving nothing between us and those monsters outside.
