{-Personal log, LCpl Judas T. Morrison. Date Log Created: October 22nd 2548}

I had to take another day in between writing these logs. It...isn't easy to recall all of this, no matter how much 'help' Farrah and I get from the shrinks. I don't think even they know how to help someone process trauma like this. When it involves literal monsters eating your friends before your eyes, who could know? At any rate, I'll get back to recounting the mission. Once the shooting started it was just chaos-we didn't have any choice but to retaliate, hunkering down in what small section of the room we had. I'm pretty sure I got grazed by a shot or two but thankfully our armor is pretty good at repelling projectiles; it's the Covvie plasma that melts through like butter. Mikaelis must have had this all planned out because he immediately called out a target with a rucksack as they dashed out the door on the far side of the room. Unfortunately since there was now an open door behind us, the other ODST had to cover us in case the monsters tried to ambush us and take our focus off the main objective-which they did.

Thankfully there were only a few of the things coming at us but with such a commotion it was only a matter of time before more showed up. As far as the other problem we had to deal with, about five or six of the INS made it out the other side, the HVT among them. The rest died almost instantly when we had opened fire; I guess even they weren't ready for a move like the ONI spook pulled. When we asked for orders, Mikaelis immediately told us the enemy must be heading for the tram station that led to an off site bunker. Convenient he only just now told us about that tidbit of information. The one good thing about the situation was that the enemy only had one way to go and we could easily keep track of them. The bad part was that the monsters would be right behind us, trapping us between a rock and a hard place if the Innies engaged us again. There wasn't time to think about it though; we had to act fast before being overrun.

As we hauled ass down the corridor after the INS, Farrah hastily set up the charges she had on her kit to try and seal the infected in. I stopped to cover her because I wasn't going to leave another person behind. Not again. We quickly found ourselves being swarmed with dozens of the fucking things and I had to pull her away before we became their next meal. With only a few of the charges armed, the result was less than satisfactory and didn't stop the relentless onslaught. God I remember how badly my leg muscles burned from running so much. They could have given out at any time, leaving me to die but I'm so goddamn thankful I got out of there alive. The only thing I could do was keep going no matter what.

Eventually after making some progress we heard some commotion ahead and found the Innies had run into trouble at the tram station. Some of the creatures had ambushed them; I don't understand how those things can move so quickly. Mikaelis and the other ODST were a few meters ahead of us and were first to engage. One INS soldier dropped from our gunfire and two more got torn apart by the monsters. The remaining three hopped onto one of two trams and while trying to get it working they opened fire on us. It was quite a shitshow to be sure. We had those abominations coming in from behind us and from the left, then we had armed enemies attacking us from the front-all with no cover.

Just then, a big hulking creature busted through the adjacent wall to our right. It was at least 12 feet tall and looked like it was made up of a bunch of the smaller ones...the ones that used to be people. I swear it was so horrible to look at but the smell alone was strong enough to permeate my helmet filters and make me want to puke. I didn’t have time for that though. We had contacts on all sides and it was all we could do to stay alive.
