{-Personal log, LCpl Judas T. Morrison. Date Log Created: December 7th 2548}

The past four weeks have been damn nice, I’ll tell you that right from the start. Most of it was spent shooting the shit, relaxing, and not giving a damn about this war. I know it might sound morally bankrupt but with what I’ve been through...I think I deserved to forget about things for a little while. Despite the good times, it wasn’t all fun and games. Surprisingly, we were contacted off the books by a very prolific mental health doctor in New Alexandria and I got the feeling we had a certain ONI Operative to thank for that. I wonder if he was doing us a favor. Still can’t figure that guy to be honest...At any rate, the doc gave both Farrah and I specialized sessions to process what we’d recently been through. It seemed the doc was also forwarded my previous logs without Dr. Atwell’s knowledge and I immediately had suspicion on who could be responsible. Still, they were very good at their job and made sure we felt comfortable discussing everything for the third or fourth time. It still didn’t make it much easier but I think maybe we’ve worked through it enough for the reality to set in-there was no going back. Not like that heavy baggage is just gonna disappear into thin air.

After the four weeks were up and our injuries were pretty much healed thanks to the advancements of military medical application, the Brass called us back to duty for reassignment. It seemed like time flew right by…Much to my dismay it became quickly apparent they were serious about ONI being involved in our lives from now on. Waiting for us in the briefing room on base was Captain Vassão, Operative Mikaelis, and a few other ONI analysts. Aside from that, two other ODST specialists were present, most recognizable was Corporal Ganbataar Ivanjaav-the red-armored ODST who we met on the last mission. I didn't know the other person but they were introduced as Mel Crawford, our new Marksman and Communication specialist. This wasn't the first time I'd been reassigned with new soldiers but somehow it felt different. Maybe that was because the future of my life, not just career, depended on what transpired in that room.

As a shock to at least two of us the officers briefing us opened with the statement that Farrah would be promoted to Sergeant in Sandover's stead. They didn't even have to mention our former CO by name for me to tell that Farrah was getting choked up but she did her best to hide it. As dutifully as ever, Farrah accepted the promotion and the briefing continued. Of course, the formalities would be taken care of in the coming days but for now I'll detail the assignment given to us. Under Mikaelis' stead we would be tasked with first tracking the Insurrectionist cell that attacked the ONI base prior to the last mission. Intelligence believed there would soon be a resurgence in the outer colonies and wanted us to nip that problem in the bud.

Per the intel we had, Insurrectionists were gathering in larger numbers than previously observed in recent years. It was thought they'd gone underground for the most part but their activity on the border between Inner and Outer Colonies had become concerning to the upper echelon of the UNSC. There was speculation several cells were already operating in the Inner Colonies but no one had proven it yet-or so the public had been told. I didn’t know either way but our mission was to infiltrate their compound, locate any important data, and neutralize their leadership if possible. I felt mostly indifferent about the mission parameters as a whole; the Innies had caused a lot of trouble around UNSC systems when I was growing up. It sucked to still have to deal with this problem but if I could have a part in silencing them for good, I was all in.

Furthermore, this was a two-pronged operation with another team being led by a curious figure. Flanked by four ODSTs was a Spartan the likes of which I'd never seen before. Their armor was all black save for a red visor and they had a few specialized pieces of equipment. The analyst briefing us introduced her as Spartan G150-Zaya. Well. If this didn't make things awkward….
