{-Personal log, LCpl Judas T. Morrison. Date Log Created: December 23rd 2548}

After getting back to the motel room later that night, I made sure to give Mel some crap for kneeing me like he did. The egghead just laughed it off and I swear even Ivan was ready to let out a chuckle. Farrah tried to ease the mild tension but shit, even she probably wanted to laugh at me. It's nothing I'm gonna hold a grudge over for sure; I wouldn't be an ODST if I couldn't take a little punishment. I guess some friendly rivalry is better than being at each other's throats. I've seen that happen before and it's a recipe for disaster. Anyway, the rest of the night was pretty chill as we laid out our plans and the next move we were going to make. Using the info we gathered on guard patterns, we could sneak around back of the UEG building and intercept the two-man patrol right before shift change. I know it probably sounds overconfident of me but I felt kinda good about our chances despite not having any prior experience. Ivan was the exception of course and he gave us a few pointers and helped guide Farrah along with laying out plans. Still, it was nice to feel like we were accomplished at something more than just not dying on the battlefield. Maybe that in itself is a skill but at this point I'm ready to chalk it up to luck.

Once we had our game plan we simply turned in for the night and waited until morning. We hadn't been in communication with Mikaelis during this Op to maintain our cover just in case any UEG personnel caught our trail. I mentioned my concerns before but despite having our training wheels cut out from under us, I was thankful for the safety net that would prevent us from getting involved in a bureaucratic nightmare. Well, there was still plenty of time for us to fuck it all up but we hadn't seen any signs of being discovered yet. Needless to say we all had our fingers crossed. Once we were all up at the crack of dawn, it was time to get ready for action. We'd be ambushing the noon shift when most of the UEG employees were out to lunch. We had no idea about the schedule of the administrator in question but that'd be a problem we'd have to deal with when we came to it. After we had the dirt on him it wouldn't matter if we'd have tied him up and stuffed him in a closet; he'd likely just blame his competitors anyway.

When the time came, the four of us were back downtown and waiting for the security guards to walk into work. It seemed like they had parking in a separate lot behind the building and walked through an alleyway up to the badge-access entrance. Sadly we'd have been without much cover having to cross that lot but we made do with the few cars parked there already. Our job was really a piece of cake; we all knew how to disarm and incapacitate an opponent without harming or killing them. Even the security guards didn't stand a chance against us military vets. Damn, that makes us sound old but I guess this war has made us all age a few years too fast. I mean no disrespect to the security guys since they are technically on our side but we do have quite an advantage over them. Shame they don't know they are working for a dirty official...least I hope they don't know. If we do our job well, maybe things will change for the better here. Is that too optimistic of me?

Moving on, once Farrah and Ivan took out the two guards and nabbed their gear, we hid them in a different nearby alley where hopefully no one would find them. Quickly donning the light armor suits, both Farrah and Ivan signalled us to come out of cover so we could all infiltrate the building. The first stop was the security checkpoint where Farrah and Ivan played up the situation by fabricating a story that they were from a different branch bringing new recruits (Mel and myself) in for a general training tour. Surprisingly the other two guards currently on duty bought the lie and clocked out without anything more than a friendly "hey how are ya? Yeah, shit day" sorta conversation. I wasn't sure if they were stupid or just that bored with their jobs that they wanted to leave as soon as possible. Clearly there was some oversight somewhere if we could just walk right in. I won't complain though; we got to do our jobs that much easier.

Once the other guards were gone, I navigated the security terminal to find a map of the building so we didn't wander around aimlessly. I had to scan one of the badges we nabbed from the guards to get in but beyond that it was fairly simple; the computer systems weren't all that different from those used in the UNSC of course. I even found a short list of frequent patrol routes inside and outside of the building the guards here did, also with the checkpoints to stop and sign off at. That was one thing I noted to the others we should do to cover our tracks. With that in mind, we figured it best to have one of us in uniform with a "trainee" remain on the lower floor to sign off as an alibi while the others went upstairs to the admin office for the real mission. Since Mel got to have fun playing the thief last time, Ivan and I went upstairs while Farrah took Mel to the level one checkpoint. It wasn't as satisfactory of a revenge as I'd have liked but it'll have to do until later.

Once we split up and left the security break room, I used my datapad given to me by Mikaelis to navigate us around the building. There were some signs on the walls to direct visitors or guests but I wanted to make sure we didn't get lost or turned around-any little slip-up like that could blow our cover, especially since we were on camera now that we were in the main building. The interior was rather lavish compared to the spartan-esque design of the rest of the town. I guess efficiency was more important to the general population than marble walls and massive glass windows. All I could think about was how shit this building would be to defend if the Covenant invaded. Hell, even if it were just Insurrectionists. I didn't expect border colonies to be complacent but I guess that's human nature for you. Anyway, thanks to my newly learned skills combined with a little prior expertise, we didn't run into any trouble. On the second level we checked in with the receptionist who Ivan apparently had the hots for. I honestly couldn't tell if he was acting through that thick accent but he was certainly chatting up that brunette at the desk. After a few minutes I had to nudge him along to keep from engaging too long with the real employees; didn't want to risk someone figuring out we weren't supposed to be there.

I led the way to the level two security checkpoint and there Ivan and I signed off with the names of the guys' whose badges we stole. I'm just glad no one double checked the pictures cuz that'd have been a problem. Someone really needs to step up UEG security because this really isn't that hard. And they wonder how the INS get on the inside so easily… Er, on a less depressing note, Ivan and I finally made it to the third floor and carefully navigated through the offices to the administrator's suite. We couldn't hear any noise coming from inside but we didn't know if the walls and doors were soundproofed. I wanted to lean towards "no" considering the design oversights of the architecture but I thought it'd be too naive to assume. Counting to three, we entered the room and found it to be empty. I bet Ivan was happy he didn't have to bullshit his way through explaining why a lowly guard was in the administrator's office, too. With a breath of relief, I didn't waste much time starting the hack on the admin terminal while Ivan stood outside on watch. Most of this was letting a program do the work while I maintained a hardline between my datapad and the terminal but I figured not all of the hacking ONI teams did was so straightforward. Thankfully the job only took a few minutes to download everything off of the terminal and then we could finally get out of there. Just as we were ready to leave, we were met by a surprise. Four well-armed men in all-black PMC type gear stood outside the door and they didn't seem too happy to see me. I saw Ivan unconscious and thought things must be bad if they could take him out without me hearing the commotion. The next thing I remember was being clocked in the face before hitting the floor and thinking how badly we fucked up. After that, I blacked out. This sure was a wild ride.
