Description
Golden AgeA shadow of what was
a Time when life was much tougher
and yet they lived life to the fullest
and found the sun with fun, song and dance
When radio ruled the day
we would all come out to play
Radio Days
---------------------
To the Enjoyment we should Find in Life & the
The Art
This is actually a composite of two Valve or Tube Radios
The station dial plate was taken back lit by the setting sun, but I got a shadow from some part of the radio
the inside overlays are of two radios
Both are just post WWII but would have been 10 years old when Bill Hayley, Rock around the Clock hit the AM Radio Air Waves
I keep going back to the line from the BookA Tale of Two Cities "Its was the best of times, it was the worst of times"
I think the fist 50~60 years of the 20th Century Were very much that
There was more caring in those days in communities, and people did really live for the moments
your neighbours become your extended Family & it was probably out of Need as in the early part there was no such thing
as social welfare and if you couldn't get a Job you lived of the charity of others.
So in that respect much tougher times but maybe in that it brought people closer together....
and a closer spirit of Humanity
So is today better or worse ?...I dont know to tell you the truth...Thought what I see of the world and how we behave to one another
leaves me wondering if this is the Stone age...a regression not a progression to something better!
So the Art is to Happier times when people didnt have much, but each other and through the misery of life
found happiness with each other

we had TV ...joking dear but yeah it was the focal point many years ago
its kinda funny now thinking about it Eve, Radio and TV was a family thing to do
but now with computers and phones we are all so isolated
like they are personal experiences for the most part
just a though following on from how we really have kinda lost the village so as to speak
The glass Dial in that Art is from a Beehive, quite distinctive looking radio

We had TV eventually - and as you say it was a focal point for the family, but we only watched a few programs and it was like a treat Yes we are becoming more and more isolated but in a way we also make different kinds of friends, spread far and wide around the world
My Grandson (aged 7) is restricted to 20 mins on the computer each day and 20 mins TV and I'm not sure what I think about that and my daughter thinks computers are the root of all evil as far as her children are concerned, so perhaps it will all turn around eventually and we will be back where we started

yeah my childhood was way different to what you have today
its kinda sad I guess...we'd be gone having fun and mischief ..
sadly these day kids get driven everywhere (with some good reason)
or are using a computer in one way or another...like Xbox etc
I am not opposed to limiting time for kids
20 min seems a bit short thought....your daughter maybe right but I think now a necessary Evil to a point
truly thought I think we can all get too attached to our computers & phones..I do tend to try and keep them out of my life
so no FB twitter twoddle or anything like that for me and my phone is a phone mostly
Like we all went out for dinner one night
and everybody was sitting there doing some sort of net interfacing on there phone..facebooking messaging etc
so yeah your daughter has the right Idea in someways yes..
Yes a friend whom now has left DA said exactly that to me once
cause her life style was so nomadic her friends become people on the Net
which mean with each move she could still have her friends
but she now seems to have served all ties to the net
Which is sad..I miss her but well I hope she is now settled and maybe has some real flesh and blood friends
Still it is a good way to keep in contact with loved ones the net
yeah I am thinking maybe for our own best health we need to get back to more interactive tribal ways

I hate that phone thing - my daughter does that and I ticked her off the other day and told her she was only allowed 20 minutes on her phone, talk about pot and kettle! I do FB but mainly to keep in touch with everyone as the family is scattered far and wide (Spain, UK, Canada, New Zealand, US, Switzerland) as are so many modern families, so I post photos of the grandchildren growing up and I use Skype which is lovely But I agree that there has to be a limit to it all but what that is , is a really difficult question. If my Grandson was living in the UK half of his schoolwork would be done on the Internet, something my daughter seems to overlook, plus the children need to learn how to use a PC because almost every job now requires this knowledge. It's all a fine line to walk and I certainly don't know what the answer is

yeah lol pot & kettle bet you got a dirty look
I should say I do use it thought as an entertainment device, net and music etc but not overly
oh and as a camera
Agree the net is here to stay and it will exist in many forms for us
but I guess its about using it rather then it becoming our lives.... thats the hard part
it has made the world a lot smaller place ...I would have hoped in a better way but seems to some extent not
thought for family and friends far away its great
I guess you just got to remember that your are basically out in the public with the net
like walking down the street and must conduct your self in that frame of mind
for your best security and safety...also it is indelible marks you leave on the world too
So you have to be very wary what you leave laying around
Privacy really there is none on the net and Gov are just making that a harder option for you to maintain any
not to mention the field day hackers have anyway...
Most defiantly agree
being able to use a computer, the net and the many forms its coming in will be like the 3 R's
a must to know if you are to survive in this world
Anyway 20 min I thinks a bit short but sure she should monitor all they do in that regard
like I said its a window on the world and a window works both ways..
But Id rather the net then not
