*spoilers for people who don't play metroid*Other M came out and I was really surprised to see this boss in it. I really disliked him in Fusion, but i found that this fight was pretty epic. So heres a 5 hour speed painting of it.
Nightmares a pretty cool boss. I definitely enjoyed fighting him this time around.

((Good art, but I'd have to disagree. I liked the Metroid Fusion version of The Nightmare better. But hey, everybody's got an opinion. Not trying to be rude, sorry if I come across that way. Still love the picture.))

The Nightmare was easily the best boss in Other M, and not because of the difficulty (because it was quite easy). The cinematic feel of the fight was amazingly spot-on and was very eerie. It truly felt like you were fighting a nightmare personified. I just wish the rest of Other M's bosses were as satisfying as the Nightmare (I'm looking at you, Phantoon). If Other M had a "boss mode" that let you fight certain bosses over and over, I'd probably fight the Nightmare so many times. In all my replays of Other M, I looked forward to fighting the Nightmare again.

Yeah, Nightmare was a cool, but disturbing boss. I really liked how it manipulates gravity, and its Shadow-Ball shooting attack in Other M was neat, not to mention it uses its arm lasers better there. In Other M, it really freaked me out too, especially because of how it sounds like some sort of wailing ghost-baby, and the way it attacks you at parts. I agree though that the Metroid Fusion one didn't scare me as much, but the Other M version was truly a "Nightmare."
However, it's appearance in Other M certainly gave it a good backstory, as in it was probably created aboard that Space Station but went berserk. Not only that, but Samus didn't exactly kill Nightmare in Other M, she just damaged its machine-parts so badly that it was rendered immobile for a while. So it must be the same Nightmare as in Fusion (since storyline chronologically, Other M occurs before Fusion)
Apparently because of it's violent nature, but viable possibility in a breakthrough in Gravitational Devices, the Galactic Federation must've repaired its mechanical components after the events of Other M, sent it to B.S.L. where they believed it could be contained more safely, and continued experimenting on it there, until the X breakout happened and the X infected it.
By the way, I just noticed that Nightmare's Mask's Face looks rather similar to Hubert Cumberdale's face in Salad Fingers. It's very similar due to shape, those wrinkly-looking ridges along the mouth, those lifeless-looking beady eyes, and such.

I loved him in fusion, he was one of my favorite bosses! The whole seeing him fly around in the background always made wonder if he would do a surprise attack.

I've never heard anywhere that he was supposed to represent a Nightmare. That's just a name that the GF gave it when they created it.

Unless you are playing Other M on Hard Mode, this guy isn't as hard as most think. It just requires lots of jumping and SenseMoving.

"super easy", you say? Well, that's super easy for YOU to say. Dude, I know all that shit. It's when he starts to fly around the room like a rabid maniac with his ugly mug, that I lose to him. And I'm not especially good with the Screw Attack either.
It's also a pain in the ass to actually stay on that ladder while trying to shoot him. God, I just HATE that boss.

Dodging him while he's roaming around is simple. When you're on top, just move down because he'll start chasing you at that point. Move up on one side when he goes down and down when he moves up. Using the ladder is another simple thing. Just move onto it and when you're on, just move up or down to climb and press A to get off. Nightmare is a super easy boss if you practice enough, time his movements and then you'll be saying "How the hell is it that I had trouble fighting this guy before?"

I won't spoil it. Watch cutscenes online if you aren't up to getting the game. Overall I loved the game, one of the best 3 metroids. Really could've used a story, and it was just the right one. Left things open, but explained a lot. 9/10 for me
