Description
This was just an exercise I did... I gave myself 2 hours to get as much done as possible on this painting. I also only allowed myself to use the paintbrush, no airbrushing this time. Those of you with good taste in music might recognize this as the cover of the Hot Rod Circuit album Sorry About Tommorrow. As an exercise I wanted to prectice working from a ref photo, and that was the one I chose. As it is just a rip off of a CD cover and an exercise, I am not sure if I will finish it.... Crits are more than welcome on this, technique especially.Related content

well i can't really give you any critiquing seeing as how you're done and the finished product is a fav of mine
i love lookin at works in progress, lets me see the creation process the artist goes through and just how much effort is involved in it.

well done for 2 hours...i oughta inflict something like that on myself for practice.....anyhoo.....id watch the colour changes as the values get lighter...im probably just noticing underpainting but she turns more pink on her left shoulder opposed to the gold tones of her chest and right shoulder......its good for what it is tho
skin tones are a bitch

Wow, my first tutorial request! To answer some questions, this is all on one layer. I started by sketching the outline on my wacom using the cd cover as a reference. Then I just started painting over the outline, manually picking the colors(which was a bitch). I guess my trick is starting by laying down base colors and then painting over the bases with highlights and lowlights with a 80% hardness brush at about 10% opacity with pressure control on opacity and size.

I'd liek to see that piece finnished. how do you pick the colors? do you have teh origianl picture as an underlying layer and use the eyedropper to select or do you manually select the colors? if those colors are manually selected then I'm really impressed. I've allways found it hard to select skin color in digital formats. (RGB,HSL,CMYK). did you use a digipad to sketch the outline or did you scan it after drawing by freehand?
heh, I seem to allways ask alot of questions when commenting. ...actaully, I ask more than I comment... :/

This is awesome. as for finishing, I think it looks spectacular the way it is. It gives it it's own quality that you wouldn't get from a "finished" piece
