I have to ask, where do you get a good wig like this one? Did you order it online? Or from a salon/beauty store? All I can find in my town are the cheap halloween ones ;x;

I buy all my wigs online or sometimes in person in a merchant hall at an event. When online, I usually buy from eBay, Arda Wigs, or Wigs-us. Another place a lot of people are getting wigs is Fantasy Sheep and C.C. Kids from Taobao but you would need an agent and perhaps a group order to make it really worth ordering that way. Hope that helps a little.

So, I have a quick question for you:
In step 3, I'm guessing you cut the bottom layer into the shape you wanted with a perpendicular cut (like how you'd normally hold scissors), but just in a V-shape, and then you trimmed the hair into a more natural look with a vertical cut. But what about the upper layers? Did you just trim like crazy until all the hair got trimmed into a V-shape?

You guessed correctly. For the upper layers I continued vertical cutting using thinning shears as well as regular scissors. This is a very basic layering technique.
I have since discovered that using hair trimmers with different combs can get the layering done much quicker. You still will want scissors to perfect it, but trimmers will do the bulk of the work for you.

Okay, thanks. I was always intimidated by the idea of styling wigs, but your tutorial makes this seem much more approachable. Thanks again!

Thank you! I've never styled a wig, and I'm so scared to do so so usually I just chose characters with my hair-length, I can't wait to try characters with shorter hair!!

Wow! It's such a relief to know that one can save a messed up wig. haha
I was wondering, since I've never done any kind of hair or wig cutting/styling, do you have suggestions as to where would one purchase thining scissors? I know what they look like and all, but I have no idea where I'd buy a pair... and I think it'll make a real difference in a Gaara wig I'm working on....

I know there are thinning shears at Petco.
However, I just picked up a cheapie pair at the dollar store in their beauty section when I was there looking for cheap craft stuff. So, I'd check either place. Obviously dollar stores are varied as to what they each carry.
