Not exact. Let me explain you.
A sanatorium is a place to 'cure'. At the end of the 19th century they were made to cure people from several diseases like tuberculosis, alcoholism and even masturbating (well, in that century it was bad to do this!..they thought)
Of course there were some insanes too, who should be cured.
