Description Just trying to get better at painting the body digitally (and in general, really). Also wanted to experiment with different races. And please forgive the horrendous drawings, as I only spent about 10 min apiece on them. The color was done in Photoshop and Painter approx 1 hour.

The color is great, really like the details in the arm sockets, and the obliques the way you separated them. I'm curious, what part of this was done in photoshop? Seems like entirely painter to me...

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I used PS mainly for color correcting, all the "rendering" was done in Painter.

Ah that would have been my guess, the rendering is saweet, or my own hybrid word for coolness: phatola!

are you aware of how many levels of kick ass that is?

you have NO idea what i would do to draw like that!

Ha! thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it. As for drawing like that... practice! It's something everyone says and no one wants to hear, but it's the truth. If it makes you feel any better, I used ref for the bodies, so it wasn't like I just started drawing and this popped out.

Also, thanks for the fav!

lol yeah, that's how i've been doing it... i got like five reference books i use, but i STILL can't seem to get them down just right.

and don't even get me started on hands... grrr....

Yeah, hands are a bitch. I've found that with them (and most things) breaking it down to it's most fundamental shapes really helps in capturing the form. When you think about it, it's just a flattened cube with 5 cylinders popping out from it. No big, right? Keep at it, you'll be fine!

yeah, i've tried stuff like that... i found i can draw a perfect hand if it's holding a gun... and that's it. but yeah, i'll work on the other positions too.

About how many various colors do you think you used on this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StephenSchaffer In reply to bittersweetdreams [2007-12-12 04:09:54 +0000 UTC]

Initially there were just three per skin tone: a shadow, a midtone, and a highlight. I loosely blended them together and then did the point-click-paint method with the eyedropper tool to smooth the gradations. After that I added an overlay layer to accentuate different parts: red for the shoulders, neck, breasts; blue for shadows; yellow for highlights, etc. I also used a couple adjustment layers: color balance, selective color, etc. So to answer your question, I have no idea But there's probably about 20-25 major colors per body.
