My 1966 Murray 5 speed from Florida. Male riders, beware. (This is a 'toy' shifter.. you oughta' see the ones on the old Schwinn Stingrays.. I had a friend who lost his pair to one of those big son-of-a-bitches.) It used to be further back, but it often.. er, hit things too often if I had to stand at a light. It's still a little in the way, but I like it that way. Long live the non-indexed stick shifts!
