What a day! The butterflies are out in force. I've spotted loads today and got some great shots. This being one of them. Its a Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly. Not particularly rare but nice to find none the less. The larvae dine on stinging-nettles which, I'm glad to say, we have many of locally This butterfly is collecting nectar from a common thistle flower.Nikon Coolpix 4300. Resized, cropped and border added in Photoshop.

wow, is that a GM (gene mod) butterfly? Earth species are simply beautiful. Designer(s) (god?) of such creatures = the greatest artist(s) .. no doubt.. I never seen one with furs of such... that is awsome... Derserve a +fav

Great shot. Common thistles seem to be quite popular with many butterflies.
Winter will be hell...just love it when every meadow is buzzing with insects.
Another interesting thing is names. In German, this one is called "Kleiner Fuchs", which means "Little Fox".
